How do you get LO to nap with you?

I've seen posts below about this...JT is forever trying to escape out of the bed and it's not relaxing to lay with him. But, I would love to nap with him. How do you do this? Where are you (bed, couch, floor)? Are you only able to do this when they are super drowsy?

JT pretty much falls asleep in his crib and I'm not sure I could pull this off but I'd like to.

  • I need this info too. I can't rock her or hardley snuggle unless she is sick. She will never sit still. There is no way we could nap together.

  • I don't realize she has an ear infection and don't take her to the doctor to get antibiotics and then I'm the only place she wants to nap. There's some crying involved but it gets the job done.

No, seriously though, we don't nap together unless she's really sick.  I've tried tons of times and she'll just thrash about and the second I put her in her crib she'll roll over and pass out.  Let me know if you figure something out Big Smile

  • We used to take naps together all the time in my bed.  He is usually too wiggly now, and I am too paranoid he is going to fall off the bed.  Sometimes I can get him to fall asleep with me in the morning after his first bottle or for a nap when he is really tired and cuddly.  I usually lay on my back or side, and then he will sleep curled up in the crook of my arm.  I don't get very good sleep like this, but I love it.

  • Sleeping with LO on the couch is pretty unsafe. Our LOs are bigger now, but they could still easily fall off or slide between you and the cushion with their face smushed. If you do cosleep even for naps, google safe cosleeping guidelines for some safety ideas.

I don't think I can really help you because LO pretty much only sleeps next to me, lol. Wanna switch problems? ;) I nurse him while laying in our bed, then he falls asleep. We have napped on the floor before too though. When H is home with LO he rocks him for a while then lays down next to him in our bed until LO falls asleep.

  • It only works for us when it's me & H to create a dual boundary, because otherwise she's all, OOH ALARM CLOCK! OOH LAMP!  The common denominator in getting her to sleep is binky + lovey (unless she's sick, in which case it's MOOOMMAAAAAA).

  • She won't really nap unless it's with me in our bed.  I just take her there when she's fussy, plug her paci in, tuck her into the crook of my arm, and she's out for an hour or even two. If I put her in her crib, she will be up in 20 min.
