SO FRUSTRATING NOT KNOWING HOW TO HELP BABY FEEL BETTER

So far we have been on similac lactose free, enfamil nutramigin, and now similac alimentum.  All seem to have not cured baby's upset belly, diariah, gas, spit up, and constipation.  The alimentum seems to help the most out of the three .  We dont see the gastro specialist until february and i hate to see my baby suffer its been three weeks since we came home from the hospital.  I cant seem to find any answers googleing te differences between the formulas or how to tell which would work best for baby beside te fact that I dont want to keep switching her up.   Has anyone been in my shoes any advice or experience with the matter would help.

Desperate to calm my baby

Hey - I am not a doctor, just sharing my situation.....

I'm a lurker and figured I'd come out of hiding because I saw your post! I'd ask your pedi about Elecare. It is a prescription formula and the only thing that worked for my little guy. He had nonstop symptoms including blood in his stool. My sister"s daughter had the same thing and she went to the gastro as well but I didn't wait, I asked my pedi to write a script ASAP! I did try different formulas as well and nothing worked. my insurance covered most of the cost but I still paid out of pocket about $300.00 - $400.00 a month.

    ****neocate is also another thought!

I wonder if your LO is on reflux meds? Have you tried gas drops? How long have you given each formula? I agree Eclare is a good next formula to try, but I am not sure that you have gone all possible routes before turning to the  very expensive formula.  How old is LO? You said you have been home from the hospital for three weeks, I am assuming (unless the baby had other issues) that your baby is only three or four weeks old.  In that amount of time, changing so many different formulas can really mess with the babie's tummy and trying to digest all those things.  I would suggest you give either nutramigen, or alumientum (sp?) a try for AT LEAST a week and go from there.  I know it sucks to see your baby in pain, we were there.. You just need to be patient.  I would also say as long as your LO is still gaining weight, and is still healthy overall... then stay patient stick with one formula and go from there.  (((hugs))) I hope LO gets better soon!!

Sounds exactly like me dd... ugh I know what you are going through.  The only formula that stopped her from having 12-20 bm's a day was Elecare.  Her skin and diaper rash cleared up in 24 hours, it was amazing.  Elecare and neocate are milk free.  I know the nutramigien and alimentum have milk still in them so they never worked for us.  She was also prescribed prevacid which did wonders for her as well.  She started off on xantac and that didn't work so she was put on prevacid.  Her dose had to be adjusted till it was right for her.  Please pm me if you have any questions.

I forgot to mention we give our dd gaviscon or mylanta cherry supreme when she has really bad flair ups.  It was prescribed by the pedi GI to give .05 ml.  It helps sooth her stomach.  Check with your pedi before giving this though.

I was supplementing with formula and breastfeeding when my son was born. He had hives, diarrhea, gas, spitting up and hives. The doctor of course didn't see any issue and called the hives 'acne', which of course I know the difference between the two. I switched to an organic soy based formula for the remaining time before he finally learned to latch on and he had no issues.

My son has a milk allergy, he's 25 months old.
