Mirena users, come in

So, after my post-partum check-up, I decided I wanted to get the Mirena.  I did research beforehand and talked to a friend who has (and loves) an IUD.  I felt comfortable with the small risks and thought it was right for me.  So, I have it, and now I am totally freaking out about the potential side effects and risks.  I know they are rare, but they do happen to someone, right?  Ack!  I don't know what to do.  I am seriously considering getting it taken out.  However, the more realistic (and less dramatic) part of me says that I should give it a few weeks and see how I feel about it.  I have no concrete reason to be worried (everything seems to be in place), but I am.  My 4 week follow up is in a few weeks, so I know that will be a good time to talk to my practitioner about it.

What's been your experience with it?  Did anyone else have second thoughts after getting it?  I know a lot of people love theirs.  If you love yours, did you love it right away?

Re: Mirena users, come in

  • I loved mine and didn't have any issues with it at all.  I'll be getting another after Butterbean is born.

  • My only side effect as been no period. Smile Not complaining about that.

My first one, after Ben was born, expelled (but I think that was due to a uterine biopsy I had which may have shifted it closer to the cervix.)  I had a second one put in shortly there after, and the most annoying thing was that I spotted for three months. I had it for nine months and then decided to just go back on the pill.

After Molly was born, I had it placed at my PP check-up. I've had it since January of this year and my only side effect as been no period. It's awesome!

  • I've only had mine for about 8 weeks, but i definitely had second thoughts after getting it. not because i was worried about side effects, but more that i was annoyed with the spotting. i started spotting 2 weeks after getting it in and spotted for about 5 weeks. like only in the last couple days has it (hopefully) stopped.

so i haven't had it long enough to decide if i love it, but i'm hating it less now. hopefully i'll love it after a few more months. i do love not having to think about or worry about bc.

  • I've had mine for 1.5 years and haven't had any problems up until the last week where I've had some bleeding/cramping. But I'm not sure that has anything to do with the IUD. Once I actually got my period back (DD was 1 yr old), I've had a regular "cycle" but it's really only been about 2 days of spotting. No cramps, no bleeding, nothing. I've been really happy with it. It's nice not to have to worry about remembering to take a pill and not having hormones flowing through my body. I'm getting it removed in a few weeks to prepare for TTC #2 this summer, but I'd definitely consider another one.
