Anyone Practice Love and Logic?

We are going to a seminar about it and was curious what you thought if you had/do practice it.

Re: Anyone Practice Love and Logic?

  • This is something I have been meaning to research,  I have the book sitting on my nightstand but haven't had time to read it.  I have a good friend who is a child psychiatrist and this is her favorite parenting book/style.  She said its been helpful for her own family and lots of her clients so I thought I would give it a try.  Anyways,  I would love to hear your thoughts on the seminar you are taking and if you find it helpful.

  • Ditto - I have a friend that loves it, but I have not had the time to invest in it yet.  I am on their email list so I get those.  I'd also love to hear how it goes and if you think it's a good fit.
  • So funny that you posted this today - DH and I had a bit of a heart to heat about discipline yesterday and we're going to try to really start implementing the techniques. I have the book and like what's in there. I'd like to take the seminar too but DH is a total cheapskate and wants to see if we can do it by ourselves first.

We are doing it through Em's school and it's only $25 so how could I turn it down?!?!? That is with childcare for the kids and for them to eat dinner there too. I have been interested for a while but really need a better plan of action and thought this might just be the ticket since DH and I are on totally different pages right now.

  • I had coffee with a friend yesterday and she was telling me that they use this technique and love it.  It has worked really well for their boys (ages 6 and 4).  I guess their oldest son's school does "Teaching with Love and Logic," so it really helped to have it reinforced at home.  Their youngest is only 18 months, so they haven't tried it on her yet.

Oh wow, really? Do you know if it's open to the public? For $25 I could definitely get him on board!

FWIW we implemented one of the techniques today - sending Leo to his room when he's throwing a tantrum or really out of control whining. I can't say that it completely changed his behavior (although it was definitely effective in that he hated it), but it took my stress level from about a 15 on a 10 point scale to maybe a 6, lol. I yelled a lot less today. So far I am a fan.

We started doing that with Toddler C, and it's been working.  I didn't know it was a Love and Logic technique (a friend gave us the suggestion).  What is the premise of Love and Logic?  Has anyone used it who can give a quick summary?
