Having to fight that nesting urge...distract me, please!

Nesting has hit me hard...but since we're moving in a month, I can't exactly nest here! So I'm trying to find projects to distract myself and still feel productive. I've been reorganizing everything in the apartment a little at a time so that packing will be easier, cleaning like crazy, doing a lot of writing, etc., but it is still just gnawing away at me. I can't wait to be able to actually get into Ethan's nursery and go nuts!

Does anyone have some good distractions they can throw my way?

  • Ahh, Pinterest...one of my many obsessions! I love it :-) That and Foodgawker have been very helpful these past few days.

  • At the beginning of the year, I love getting my new daily planner.  It keeps me busy for a few days adding in information.  I know it's old school, but I just need to WRITE things down :), lol.

Make a photo book on shutterfly of your pregnancy.

Write out birthday/anniversary cards for the year :).  I always say I am going to do this, never do.

Ooh, good idea...maybe I can get some birthday shopping done ahead of time, too - we have four birthdays in March, not including the likely birthday of our LO!

  • What about purging the things you have? Less to move/pack up when the time comes?

A recent favorite activity of mine has been online window shopping at all the fab clothes I'm going to buy once I get my pre-baby body back :) I've even made a list of certain items I will definitely be buying.

The purging is the most hilarious process...I just went through a couple of our bookshelves (which have turned into storage for completely random items) and you would not believe the random stuff I found...and it feels so good to get rid of stuff! Good call on that one...I'll definitely be doing more of that.

I've been doing the post-baby body pre-shopping too! I got rid of about 3/4 of my wardrobe this fall - anything that didn't fit/I didn't wear was donated. So now I have tons of closet space...and not much that I can wear after I've finished with maternity clothes. Whoops. I've been looking around for clothes that I like that I can invest in later :-)

The thing I just started this evening is planning my post-baby cleansing/exercise regimen...I've neglected formal exercise while pregnant since I've had so much back pain/soreness and didn't want to aggravate it or push myself too hard. I do stretches and walk as much as I can, but apart from that, I've been a bit lazy. So I'm really looking forward to getting back into shape - I was in the best shape of my life right before I found out I was pregnant, which has been very motivational to me this whole time.

Have you thought about how you want to decorate the nursery yet?  You could use your love of Pinterest and make a nursery inspiration board ...

Good call...I have a nursery board, but not one with my specific ideas yet...ooh, this could be dangerous :-)

  • Can you pack some of your stuff up so you don't have as much to deal with in the next few weeks?  Like books/movies that you know you aren't going to watch...some dishes?

I have taken these ideas and run with them! I wish I had done a before-and-after shot of our closets. I'm so proud :-D
