Anyone with belly button rings?

Have you taken yours out yet? Mine hasn't bothered me at all and my belly button is still the same at 22 weeks, so I haven't taken it out yet... It kinda looks ugly without it cause I can see the empty hole. Maybe I'm just not used to it cause Ive had it for ten years... Did any of you have one with your first pregnancy? What happened to it? I've heard of them ripping where the piercing was or getting stretchmarks through it. Did any of you end up keeping it in the whole time? Just curious!

Re: Anyone with belly button rings?

  • I lost mine after my appendectomy in February. I didn't think you'd be able to keep it just because of how your belly and belly button changes. *shrug*

  • I've had mine for 10 years too. Right now I have no problem with it, but when it gets too tight, I have a pregnancy belly ring waiting! It's basically just longer and more flexible. I intend on keeping the piercing as long as I can.

  • With my first baby I had a bar type not ring type in and I was able to leave it in until almost 35 weeks and then when I took it out my belly was so stretched that the hole never closed so I was able to put it back in about two weeks after ds was born. I had it for another 6 years until I got pregnant with ds #2 and then my belly popped sooner and more out in front so I took it out earlier just because it looked funny and showed though all of my clothing. I took it out around 16 weeks that time and it closed up by the time ds #2 was born so I just left it out.

  • Mine is out and has been for a while.  My belly button got all stretched out pretty quickly.  Plus you could see it through my clothes and it looked weird.  I've heard of women who leave it in the whole time, though.  It definitely won't be a problem if it doesn't cause any discomfort.  Everyone is different.

  • I was 15 when I got my belly ring (11 years ago!) and I am very attached to mine.  However, my belly has been bursting out and I put on a fitted t-shirt and saw the ring sticking out and it looked stupid so I finally caved and took it out =(  I could probably still keep it on but I know its time to give it up.

They make pregnancy belly rings that are flexible. https://pregnancypiercings.com/ I was thinking of getting one myself!

  • I got mine when I was 22, and I'm now 28. It was kind of a joke, I'd just had my last of 6 abdominal surgeries and my belly button had a big ugly vertical scar running next to it.

I wasn't that attached to it so I took it out early on in the pregnancy. You can see where the hole was but it's not very noticeable.

  • I kept mine through my pregnancy with DD. Around 30 weeks I switched to one of the more flexible maternity rings but only because the metal one was just a bit too uncomfortable. I didn't have any stretch marks or tearing around the actual piercing itself either. Definitely look into the maternity rings if you're considering keeping something in the piercing because the metal one will probably get really uncomfortable, and they could be part of what causes the stretching and tearing because they don't "give" as much as the plastic does. Otherwise, you could always just take the ring out and try to ignore the empty hole (I tried that and couldn't do it either. It looked too weird for me). It most likely won't grow closed unless it somehow gets irritated or infected.
  • I bought a pregnancy bar from pregnancypiercings.com.  I had to take out my metal barbell two days ago as it was starting to stretch and itch. So far it is working really well and its very comfortable. The ones they sell are really nice because you can customize the length I just made it a little longer than my regular barbell.

Here is a pic of it..

Please don't mind my hairy belly lol...

  • I still have mine. Just went to the tattoo shop and asked for a longer one so that it didn't get tight on me when my belly grows more. I'm going to keep mine in until I can't anymore. My girlfriend took hers out at the hospital before delivery because the hospital made her, but she was able to keep it in the whole 9 months. Rock it, girl!

  • I took mine out about 3 weeks ago. I haven't started loosing my belly button yet so I could have kept it in a lot longer, but it was getting super itchy -I'm guessing from the skin around it stretching. I had mine for about 10 years, and though I was a bit sad to take it out (my belly looked so bare without it!), I figured my stomach hasn't looked amazing enough to properly rock it for a few years now anyways!
