What kind of doctor is this?

I'm looking at my OB's practice's business card and I noticed ALL of the doctors in her practice have M.D. after their names except mine.  Hers says DO.  What's the difference?

Interestingly enough I actually have grown to dislike my OB throughout this process and PREFER one of the others in the practice.  Wondering is the MD v DO difference might cause this preference.

Thanks!  That's strange I would have thought I'd prefer the DO who is more holistic and whole-person oriented, but I actually dislike her a lot... she's an alarmist who is hyper-c-section.  The MDs have been more relaxed, excited, fun and are all about vaginal births.  Weird...

I'm seeing the only DO at my hospital... the rest are MDs.  My sister is an MD, and when I first noticed that he wasn't, she explained the difference.  I think he's great, and he's highly regarded there, which is why I picked him.  He's the only one at my hospital that will do a vaginal birth for twins.  He really wants me to go for it.  Sounds the opposite of your doc!

Blah. I don't totally love that answer. But I am biased as I have a DO in the family who practices 100% manipulative medicine. I have had several severe injuries including a TBI and it was an osteopath who saved my life each time. Osteopathy has a long tradition of taking a whole-body approach to medicine and using manipulative treatments to create health in the body. Most chiropractors and massage therapists often steal ostetopathic techniques (although often without proper training). Sadly, most DOs treat exactly like allopathic MDs and so there is no practical difference for the patient.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.
