C-sections

Probably a dumb question.....Internals?

Hi ladies!  This is more than likely a pretty dumb question but I am seriously having a brain fart!  LOL!  I am having a RCS in the beginning of March.  With my last pregnancy the Csection was an emergency, so I didn't have much time to think about it or ask questions or anything.  So here is my dumb question....when scheduled for a csection.....does the Dr still perform internals?  LOL!  I'm assuming yes, but wasnt' 100% certain.  Thanks!

  • I had to to have a emergency c-section with the first one and with this one I am having a RCS. My doctor has been doing internal exams due to the fact that if I am at 3 cm they will go ahead with the c-section instead of waiting until the scheduled date. Also, I have been having contractions for 2 weeks and they are making sure that it doesn't come to another emergency section since I can't have her naturally due to my pelvis being so narrow.

  • DD was supposed to be a scheduled c-section, but she came earlier than planned thanks to my water breaking 11 days before my due date.  My OB did an internal exam at my appt that day, and I wasn't thinned or dilated at all.  That was the first internal exam he had done for months though.

  • My doctor did.  I had an internal done at 36 weeks (routine at my office), and I was scheduled for a c-section at 39 weeks. I had made no progression whatsoever, and they checked me at each weekly appointment up until I had him. He was breech, so I never dialated at all.

  • Mine doesn't unless you want to have one which I dind't. To me it didn't matter since I had my rcs already scheduled.

  • I requested one as I was having the GBS test anyways.  I am having a lot of pressure and soreness so I thought maybe I was dilating.  I am 1 cm with a soft cervix.  My rcs is scheduled for the 11th and I hope I don't go sooner but think I will.

  • I wouldn't if I was having a RCS, which I most likely will. Not all doctors do it anyways even if you are having a vaginal delivery.

  • I don't think mine routinely does if your having an rcs. However, b/c of my history with my DS I have asked them to. I am a teacher and am trying to avoid having this baby in front of my second graders :) I know nothing is 100% but if action starts I will probably start my maternity leave.

If you are nervous and want to know what's going on I'd say ask. You never know.
