Repost from VBAC board and FB group

I just need a VENT. I feel like giving up on my hopes of having a VBAC. I know this is probably irrational (imagine that from a pregnant woman) but nothing is happening right now. In fact I am progressing less this time around than I did with DS. With VBAC hopefuls they tell you that if you get hung up for the same reason as your previous c-section then you have little chance of a VBAC actually happening. I am 37w 5d, closed up tight, 25% effaced and baby is at a 4 station, so pretty much floating around up there.

With DS by this time I was closed, 50% effaced and he was at a 2 station. I know that all of this means nothing and I could go into labor tomorrow but I can't help but feel like something is wrong with me. I think the reality of this actually not happening is starting to hit. I wouldn't mind going to 41 weeks if I knew that this VBAC will happen but I am afraid to get there and have them tell me I have to have a repeat c-section because they don't induce VBACs. I just want a big glass/bottle of wine right now.

  • Here in our area, there is only 1 doctor that does VBACs. Unless she was on duty, if my sister had gone into labor naturally, she would've had to have a RCS. So my sister was induced. I've never had a c-section, so I don't know much about VBACs, but if she was induced (and had an awesome vaginal birth, no complications whatsoever) I don't see why they can't induce others.

  • i am also trying for a VBAC...and am farther than you and on tuesday at 39 weeks....i wasnt dilated at all just "soft cervix". the OB told me to pump 15-20 minutes a night (tonight will be night 3 of pumping) and he also suggested sex....which i promptly vetoed. That will be the last resort on the due date. They are allowing me to go one week overdue.

Do not stress out. (easier said than done) do the nipple stimulation and if you can tolerate sex then go for it.

since the pumping for two nights i have gotten more cramps and contractions not timeable but still there. certainly way more of which will be needed for labor....but the ob told me the nipple stimulation gives a hormonal feedback to the brain and helps to soften/ripen the cervix.

keep your chin up.......we are both having babies one way or the other.....im just praying its without major abdominal surgery!

  • Your only 37 weeks sweetie. My Lo dropped down from #4 at 38 weeks. Now at 39 weeks i am still 0 dilated, 50% effaced, but she has head head jammed into my cervix. There is nothing wrong with you, or me. Baby just isnt ready to meet the world yet.

i am in your exact position. Dr wont induce a VBAC attempt and my RCS is scheduled for 41 weeks. Time crunches suck.

Once you hit 39 weeks, look into some natural induction techniques at home like acupressure, massage therapy, nipple stimulation, sex, and longer walks. We just started the acupressure last night and today has been interesting, not crazy promising, but interesting.

  • Maybe I'm not in the position to say this, but you can do this!  VBAC isn't as uncommon as it used to be, and even if your doctor can't tell by checking you, your body is getting ready to give birth.  It was made to do this.  Like PPs have said, you still have time.  I commend you for doing everything you can to have VBAC instead of automatically opting for a RCS.  You have my respect for that.  Hang in there.

  • Thank you ladies! Your comments were what I needed! Plus just writing out my feelings made me feel better. I am trying to keep the negative thoughts out, but as all of you know the end of pregnancy can get rough, especially when we're set to a time limit! I am not going to think about it until 39 weeks and then I will be heading to my chiropractor for some acupuncture as well as every other natural induction tip in the book. Thank you for the uplifting words, they made my night a whole lot better!
