I would buy another crib. One thing that is such a pet peeve to me is when people convertible cribs for their 1st child so they can 'grow into' their bed and then end up switching it back to a crib for their 2nd and buying new furniture for their 1st.
I bought my boys cribs with them in mind. To me, those are THEIR beds. I will be buying a new crib for this baby.
At 14 months I would definitely buy another crib. If you don't have one already, you could get a convertible that will convert to a toddler bed with your older child is ready to transition.
DD is over 3 when we put her in a big girl bed - she liked her crib and wasn't trying to crawl out. She may have stayed in it longer except we moved 3 months after she turned 3 and I didn't want to deal with taking the crib down, moving it and putting it back up so we bought a new big girl bed and had it delivered and set up at the new house.
I'll add that it does concern me when parents push their kids into a big kid bed because another one is coming. I think moving to a big kid bed should be something done when your kid is ready - not, your baby sister/brother needs your crib so you need to get a big bed.
I don't think the older one will be in a crib much longer, so I would def. get a convertible crib so you don't have to buy yet another bed so soon.
I don't think there's any issues with a 2nd baby having a hand-me down- unless there's a recall. I was the youngest of four, and I can promise you- I had no idea i was sleeping in a crib the other kids slept in. I had hand-me down furniture until I was out of college and buying my own furniture and it never bothered me. The hand-me down clothes on the other hand.....
Crib Crib Crib! My philosophy is to keep them in a crib as along as possible until it is no longer safe, they are climbing out, or they are just too big. My kids were both in cribs until they were 3.5, it is so much easier to transition a child that age over to a toddler bed than when they are still a 'baby' they just don't grasp the idea of staying in bed, then they can wander the house at night, etc.
My DD was 18 mo. when DS was born & we put her in a toddler bed (bought one from walmart) at 16 mo, she did well. Maybe convert your crib to a toddler bed and keep your newborn in a bassinet in your room for a few months until your DD gets used to the toddler bed, then buy her one (there are a bunch of nice ones under $100) and convert the bed back to a crib for the baby.

Crib for sure. I am debating this same thing in my head & DD will be 2 yrs3mo when baby is born. I am not sure she will be super ready for a toddler bed even at that age.
I vote for a low toddler bed against a wall with a flip-up rail on the side. My LO had no trouble with a toddler bed at 14 months (she started trying to climb out of the crib once she could walk). I think if you bought another crib it would only be used for a short time before you needed a "big girl bed" for your daughter.

I was much more comfortable with mine in cribs.
