What is this pressure/pain in my cervix?!

I've been kept awake for about an hour now and google isn't helping me. It's 5:45 here so too early to call my OB's office and I really would like to avoid calling the hospital if at all possible. I've been having a constant ache, borderlining on stabbing pain, at what seems like my cervix for the past hour. Basically, my vagina hurts. Anyone had something similar?

  • I have. Is your vagina swollen at all? Most likely it's baby pressing down on your cervix.

  • It could be lightening crotch (aka the baby kicking/hitting at your cervix) or just the way your baby is sitting. I'd call the OB just so you can have piece of mind. It's very common for our vaginas to become swollen, achy and just down right hurt at the end of pregnancy! Good luck to you!

  • I did with DS and it turned out to be a bladder infection.

  • I had it on and off all day yesterday.  Between ligaments stretching and the position of the baby, there is a lot going on down there.  Put your feet up and drink some water to start with.

  • YES. If you just get baby to move it should go away. That works for me. I keep thinking that once baby engages (or drops) it will be a regular occurrence. ugh alright.

  • There is a little person who is practicing digging their way out of you :) I had this almost constantly the last 4-5 weeks with DS, I have it every now and again now and I have to catch my breath, but if I can get the baby to move it goes away. Last time I described it as a tiny shovel digging at my cervix, that's how it felt! I thought he was scratching at me with his little fingers (he could have been, his hand was up by his face when he was born) it's not fun, but remember it is a very good thing, your body is getting ready to have this baby. What I found out when I was in full labour was that feeling is exactly what it feels like for the cervix to dilate.. just way more intense and with contractions.
