We have an almost 3 year old and then new baby. Where are you putting the carseats in the car? Right now, DS#1 is behind the passenger and baby behind the driver but I don't know if we need to switch. Thanks!

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
The safest place is in the center of the backseat, but that's not possible for us either (we have a 6 yr old who is in a high back booster seat). The second choice for safety for a baby is behind the passenger's seat, so that's where we'll install the infant seat and we'll have to bump our daughter over to the spot behind the driver. She's not thrilled with giving up "her spot" and it will make school drop off harder in the morning (now she just opens the door and hops out - I can't let her out into parking lot traffic so she's going to have to climb past the baby and then out).
Babies are so tiny and helpless - really just wet noodles, I think it's really impt to have them in the safest position you can get them into...even if it means upsetting our little diva!
When DS2 was born, I put DS1 behind the passenger and DS2 behind the driver. I know people say it's "easier to reach the baby" if it's behind the passenger but there was no way I'd safely be able to reach back and get baby a pacifier or anything no matter where he was! I liked that I could reach to DS1 easily if needed and he could reach out and meet me halfway if I was handing him something.
We have a minivan now and DS1 will be moving to the third row, passenger side because that's where the latch is (and the other two seats are connected and fold down together which we use for trips). DS2 will stay behind in the passenger seat and DS3 will be behind the driver. I only set it up this way because DS1 really wants to be able to see the baby and I think he'll have a better view if he looks at an angle.

DS1 is behind me and I am going to keep him there and put the baby behind the passenger seat. It is more likely that DS1 is going to need something from me and I am able to reach my hand back and take his cups or hand him snacks if I have to.
