Did anyone beg their OB to do c-section earlier than scheduled?

Okay, so I'm really uncomfortable here.

I'm 37 weeks & 2 days, babies are almost 7lbs each and I'm only 5"1'. I really don't think my stomach can stretch anymore or my body can handle it.

I keep asking if my dr. can schedule my c-section earlier and she won't do it before 38 weeks. She's making me wait until Jan 7 (which is 38 weeks & 3 days) because that is when she can fit me in next.

But she DID mention that she is working on Jan 2, and that IF I'm having contractions and I'm really uncomfortable, she's working that day. She can't schedule me that day because she has 2 already c-sections scheduled..

Do you think she was hinting to me that I could come in as an emergency? What if I'm not really in labor? Although, I was having some on/off contractions last night.

How do I get her to take me sooner or should I pick a different DR to deliver me earlier?

sorry so long..

thanks

  • First congrats on making it this far! Those last few days/weeks are unbearable but as soon as those babies are here you will completely forget how uncomfortable you were, ok not completely forget but it becomes a distant memory quickly :). As far as changing Dr's there is not an OB that would take you as a new patient this late in the game as you could literally go into labor at any second. I made it to 37 weeks and 6 days with my boys, but the day I went into labor let's just say I was urging to get those babies out (I took my 2 year old out shopping with me knowing that chasing him and lifting in/out of the stroller would probably put me in labor and it did). Maybe you could try some jumping jacks ;) Hang in there and Good Luck, and if you are having some contractions maybe head to L&D just in case!!!

  • No, you don't go out like a crazy pregnant lady and try to find another dr b/c the one you have wants to do what's best for your babies.  You try to make yourself as comfortable as possible and hang on

  • Let me correct myself. I'm not looking for a new doctor, but there are several in the same practice. And if I go into labor, I will end up with whichever Dr. is working that day at the hospital. So if I don't end up going in on the 2nd or 7th, I probably won't get my own doctor anyway. Oh well, it was worth a shot, lol!

  • If you want to schedule it a few days earlier and are OK with having one of the other drs do your C-section, I'd go for it! I made it to 37w6d (scheduled induction; I wasn't going into labor on my own) and I'm 5'7" ... and I couldn't even walk the last 4 weeks! ;) On the day she hinted at you could always try walking, sex, nipple stimulation and other safe methods to get things going. It might at least get some contractions going and then you could go in. At almost 38w with twins I see nothing wrong with that!

  • At 35 wks, yes, I did beg to deliver already!  OB thought I was crazy... then 2 days later he called to tell me I was going to deliver (bc discovered I was preE).  Happiest call ever!

  • My OB also wouldn't schedule my c/s prior to 38 weeks.  I was scheduled for 38 wks 1 day and they called and said my OB wouldn't be on the schedule that day so I could reschedule for the end of the week (38 wks 6 days) if I still wanted her to deliver, but I said heck no, get them out!!  I begged her to take them earlier but she wouldn't.  In the end, yes I was utterly miserable the last week, but it was so worth it because they were both healthy and came home with us when I was discharged 5 days later.

Honestly I wouldn't push for an earlier delivery.  The longer they bake the better.

  • my hospital will not schedule a c/s or induction sooner than 38w for twins- most hospitals are similar, some even 39w.

it sucks being huge and painfully pregnant- but the longer you can keep them in the better.... I was in HORRIBLE pain with my singleton for 6 weeks - kidney stones, Pre-E issues, a stent in my kidney that scraped my insides up every time i moved... i was induced at 36w b/c of pre-E and was sad i couldn't go longer with him... even though i was in horrible pain (and hospitalized every 2 weeks b/c of it)... cooking him was more important.

you'll be there soon either way - i'd just go with what the doc has planned... or what God has planned if you go into labor sooner.

  • Sounds like you're done, the babies are cooked and this all comes down to scheduling? Push to schedule for the 2nd. There is no shame in that!

  • Hospital I delivered at would not allow them to schedule me before 37 weeks and my waterbroke at 36 weeks 4 days. Funny thing is the next year I was pregnant with my son and they scheduled me at 37 weeks (even though singletons are normally 39 weeks there) because I am high risk.

  • I understand you are uncomfortable.  I was measuring 48 weeks for a LONG time before I delivered.  My OB explained to me that she could not and would not deliver me earlier than 38 weeks (not even a day) because it gets reported by the hospital to whoever tracks these things.  You can't really fake being in labor.  They are not allowed to deliver early, unless there is a medical reason.  GL getting through the next few days, you are almost there.
