Success after IF

NT scan was "acceptable"

I had my NT scan yesterday and am so glad it is over!  It went pretty well, although I have pretty low standards.  My goal was to get through it without hearing the words "severe abnormalities" or "your baby won't survive".

Before the scan the genetic counselor said they were looking for a measurement of 1-2 mm, but anything under 2.5 was acceptable, and anything over 3 was a red flag.  Our measurement was 2.43, so it was acceptable (barely), but I was really hoping for it to be under 2.  I'm trying not to let it bother me.  We'll get our full results next week and hopefully things will look pretty good then.  Our peri was very happy with the results and that they could see a nasal bone, no noticeable heart problems, and most importantly, no hydrops!

We were supposed to go back at 18 weeks for the anatomy scan, but apparently I looked too worried so she is having me come back at 16 weeks so we can do an earlier scan to check the kidneys.  Then I think we will be doing the anatomy scan at 20 weeks.

Due to some kidney issues in my husbands family and with our son, we have a 50% chance of this baby having 2 functioning kidneys and a 95% chance of it having at least 1 functioning kidney.  This still leaves a 5% chance that neither kidney will work and the baby won't survive.  I'm focusing on the 95% chance right now.  Technically, I know our odds of our baby not making it are so much higher than for most people, but I know we still have any excellent chance of things being ok.

My peri's instructions were to try to relax and let myself enjoy being pregnant so I'm going to do my best!  I will now let myself pull out some maternity pants instead of walking around with my pants unbuttoned all the time (I hate the belly band so I don't bother using it unless I absolutely have to). I'm still not telling extended family or out-of-town friends until after our 16 week ultrasound, but hopefully things will look good and I can tell them in a few weeks.

It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • Fingers crossed bloods look ok! Our NT was 2.1 and Blood was 1 in 2100 for DS. I was somewhat worried the whole pregnancy, especially since we had pyelectasis as a soft marker, but V has typical chromosomes.
