I have a 7 week old and was wondering what kind of activities can I do with him during playtime at this age?? he is not grabbing things yet, just stares....does like music and the mobile. I guess I just feel bad that he isn't "really" playing yet just staring away, makes me think he is bored lol suggestions/opinions are welcome! thanks
Re: playtime
We do tummy time, and read a book. She likes to kick at the owls on her playmat.
Becareful with the signals of over stimulation though-- looking away or zoning out could indicate that he has had all he can take for now. Then its a good idea to scoop him up and let him nap. You don't want to get to the over tired because then calming them can be a hard thing.
Honestly, you don't have to keep a newborn engaged ALL the time. More is not better. It won't affect their smarts or anything like that if you give them limited doses of activity. Just being awake and alive is a lot for their systems. EVERYTHING is new and interesting. So play, and have fun-- but realize that about 10-15 minutes of high-interactive activity is really all your LO needs. Any more and you'll get to that bermuda triangle of over tired.
Good luck!
