Hi, I'm closing in on 29 weeks and have had a few conversations with the doctor. He's very supportive of my having the experience I want, but says that his "magic tricks" are limited with a previous c-section.
I also have GD and take a small amount of insulin, which we have been lessening as time has gone on. I was on insulin last time for a few weeks and was off by 38-39 weeks. I'm hoping things go that way again this time.
I had emergency surgery a few weeks ago and had my gall bladder and a lapband removed (I was slowing loosing weight and then suddenly dropped 20 in a week ended up in the hospital for a week surgery then out a few days later). Doctor said baby has already been through a lot and we just want to be sure all is well. Of course I feel the same, but still I'd love to give it a go.
I'm kind of rambling now. Anyway, my first was a c-section at 41w 2d after a failure to progress induction (2 days of pitocin was horrible). So I'm worrying what the likelihood of #2 coming sooner and w/out much assistance.
I was looking around at things to help soften/ripen the cervix naturally and then maybe helping to get things going, but I've been getting overwhelmed. I have plenty of time, but you know worried none the less
Thanks
Re: New here too. Any of you have GD and Vbac successful?
I don't want to be a downer to you, but I think you should be prepared that a VBAC might not be possible. If you failed to progress after that long on pit, I bet you are a very high risk VBAC patient.
If your dr. is willing to let you try, make sure you know all the risks and are prepared. I wish you all the best.
Sounds more to me like her body wasn't ready for an induction. OP, do you have a deadline imposed by your doctor? I would make sure your provider is supportive of letting you go 42 weeks provided you and the baby are doing well. A failed induction does not mean you can't VBAC. Pitocin and oxytocin are not the same thing.
Yeah I totally disagree with the first response as well. I think we have a good amount of women on here that had failed inductions or FTP with their first and had a VBAC the second time. I know myself, I had a failed 3 night induction and maxed out on Pit, then went home and at 40w6d I went into spontaneous labor but never got past 9 1/2 ish and had more Pit and ended with a c/s.
This time, I had GD (didn't last time) and had a wonderful, easy VBAC with no complications or interventions at all (besides CFM).
I would think one of the biggest factors is your GD and how it progresses.
*phew* thanks gals!
My OB has mentioned the standard of care is 39 weeks, but did say I could go to 41w. I'm pretty sure if everything looks ok, I could talk him into longer. They do weekly ultrsounds and he called monitoring (I'm guessing the non stress test) so we should have a good picture of how baby is doing.
My GD has been a breeze, but I know I'm in the window where things could change quickly (the GD Dr said 28-34 weeks is when things could shake up). My numbers are stellar and all lab work related to it shows I'm not at risk for type2 diabetes so that's good too.
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement!
That is great! I am actually very glad to hear that I am probably wrong about my original post.
