Was LO's name your first choice?

We were just thinking about this last night cause my DD asked what her other name would have been. LO was supposed to be either Maya Rose or Alianna. We had thought about using Leia but did not even think it was in our top three. When I started having early contractions that's when we went back to Leia. Funny how it happened and we are happy we did. Just curious how it worked out for you ladies.

Re: Was LO's name your first choice?

  • Vito was our first choice because it meant a lot to DH.  If he was a girl he would have been Vita.  I like the girl version better, but I am glad he is a boy and DH got his name wish.

  • I've wanted a son named Luke since I was in HS. Fortunately, my husband loved it immediately as well. It was surprisingly easy. We absolutely cannot agree on a second boys name (should we have one!)

  • Reed was at the top of our list, but it took us a while to decide between Reed and Cole. I'm glad we went with Reed. I love his name!!
  • When I first was pregnant, I was considering the name Charlotte. I didn't like the nn Charlie, and Lottie matches my last name. We also have a very common last name, and I didn't want her to have a name that was so popular.

We ended up with "baby no name" for most of my pregnancy, finally deciding to go the religious name route. We picked up some Catholic baby name books and agreed on Emelia around 7months pregnant. I love her name, and I love that it has a religious conotation. It also has a good meaning and is from the 1800s, which solidified our choice.

  • Actually her middle name (Charlotte) was my first choice but MH didn't like it for a first name and we have a very long last name.  I love her first name too but at the time I thought it would be a lot less popular than it is now!

  • Once we narrowed it down to our Top 3, it was my favorite. However it took MH a few weeks to get on board with that name (for him, it was a toss-up between Myles and Ethan).

  • Yes, our first and only choice.  It took weeks to come up with a name we agreed on.  I do not like "ethnic" names and DH does not like any unisex names or names that can be a last name like Smith, Carter, Conner, Cole etc.

  • Before pregnancy our girl was going to be Peyton. It got too common. We decided on Finley before even finding out she was a she.
  • nope, not at all. It wasn't even really in consideration during the whole pregnancy. The night before I had her we were going through the long list of names we put together over the 9 months or so and it was on there. Mike said he really like it and I said I didn't dislike it. A day and a half after she was born we finally made the decision that Callie was her name.

My first choice was Audrina, although it wouldn't fit her now that I know her. MH really liked Madison and that was probably his first choice. I vetoed that.

  • Yep.  We both liked Macy even before I got pregnant.  We went through the whole process, though, trying to find other names, but we always came back to Macy.  DH was even calling her that before we knew she was a girl.  Good thing, because we didn't have any boy names that we loved.

  • I made a list of 6-7 names that I liked that worked with DHs last name. Middle name was going to be Rose or Rosalie after my grandmother.

DH liked Hannah the best off my list. So we went with Hannah Rose.

  • Yes, we had talked about the name Kaitlyn while we were dating and it never changed over the years.  When we found out we were having a girl, there was no discussion.  We didn't decide on a middle name until I was in labor at the hospital, she was 3 weeks early so we thought we had more time.

We used our favorite girl name up so if we have another girl, we're really going to have to research it.

Reed (Reid) is my top boy name, so if we have a boy next time, I'm hoping DH will be on board with it.  I love Cole too, but one of my cousins already used the name.

  • My first choice for a boy was always Lucas, but it was starting to get popular and DH didn't like it. When it was down to the wire we were going back and forth between Quentin and Enzo. Both work in French and English, which was a must for me. Quentin is a much more classic French name, though, while Enzo is kind of trendy right now in France. So we went with classic...even though here Quentin is pretty unusual!

The only thing we couldn't agree on was the spelling. I wanted to spell it Reid and DH wanted it spelled Reed. As you can see, DH won that battle! :)

  • We were team green, and girl names were hard for us... I really wanted a boy. A boy name was easy for us- my maiden name is Miles, and we joked about naming our boy that. I told him later on that night that I really liked it and how it tied the families together, and he agreed! So that was decided on, and our first boy WILL be Miles. As for a girl name, we had a hard time agreeing on anything and Sophie was the first name DH said he liked so I jumped on it. A few weeks before I went into labor, he had come home from work asking about the name Hayden, which I LOVED so we had it down to those two names. Even on the way to the hospital we agreed on those two names if baby was a girl... Once I had her, I let him make the final desicison. I had morphine in my IV so I was a tad out of it, but I remember looking at him and asking him what her name was, and (obviously) he picked Sophie. :)

  • It wasn't even in the top 3 initially! Korina was our first choice...and then we watched the Next Great Baker and the chick on there named Korina was kinda mean. We also planned on calling her Kori for short... But I went to HS with a Kori and she was mean... So the name didn't have a good vibe for us anymore... So we started thinking up new names... I was really leaning towards Katerina...but when we found Kalista and saw the meaning we knew that was the one. We altered the spelling to fit more in line with the nickname, and we were set!

If she would have been a boy it would have been much easier to pick the name. I had Kiefer picked out from day one and never swayed from that name!

It was between Hannah and Molly and my husband picked Molly because her middle name, Frances, sounded better with Molly (in his opinion). Honestly, when she was born for the first two weeks I would look at her and think 'you look just like a Hannah'.

Other names I loved were Eleanor, Charlotte and Maggie.

  • No.  DH and I couldn't agree on a name so we spent hours going through books, searching online and talking about it.  Finally we each made a list of what names we liked and the only one both of us could tolerate came to be DS's name.  My family hated it at first but I think it's growing on them now.

  • We picked Keaton when we started trying to get pregnant.  My MIL's maiden name is Keat which is where we got the name from.  We never could agree on a girls name!

  • Dh never had a first choice, he was wishy-washy.  I had really wanted to use the name Aiden for a boy or Alyssa for a girl then at about 13 weeks I had a really vivid dream where I got to watch LO grow up (sorta like watching a home video),  he was so kind and such a nice person and named Liam......that set it in stone for me and I gave the middle name to DH (he used he's dads middle name).  I can't imagine it any other way. :)
  • when mh and i were dating he loved gunther for a boy (creep from friends lol) and i loved benjamin, neither of us had a girls name picked. after a few non chalant convos about it, i suggested seamus (SHAY-mus). when i got pg we talked about it further and decided his mn would be after my uncle and it'd be Seamus Kelly for a boy and Dolly June for a girl (yes, after Dolly Parton. she just seems so nice, happy, and genuine/sincere).

  • Yes! DH heard the name "Annabelle" on the radio and it was love at first sound. We kept comparing other names to it from our "list" but nothing beat it. We did change the spelling to Annabel because I felt that "belle" was too Southern for us. And too common as well.

  • DD was easy I had alsways wanted a Zoe. It took some convincing to get DH to agree but now he says he couldn't imagine any other name fitting her.

As for DS we couldn't agree on a boy name AT ALL. He liked Anthony and Vincenzo. I had picked Teo but DH didn't like it. Neither of us hated Matteo and it was the closest we could come to an agreement. The name suits him well and DH and I are both very glad we picked it.

BTW we call him Teo as a nick name so I kind of ended up getting my choice anyway :)

  • For DD1 it was H's pick (his deceased Godmother's name) and I still regret that I committed to a name so soon. I honestly thought we would have a boy and it wouldn't be an issue, lol (we were Team Green).

To this day I really wish we picked Isabelle instead of Isabella for DD1. She just isn't an Isabella.

For DD2 it took us forever to come to a decision, but Olivia was always in the top 5. DD3's name (Catherine) was a left over from DD2's name list.

  • Kendall was on both of our lists, and we didn't like each other's favorites...so it was a compromise that we both very much liked.

  • We were team green and agreed on our girls name right away, Samantha.  Our boy name took longer because I'm a special ed. teacher and have mostly taught boys and had some really negative associations with certain names.  One night DH was joking and said how about Vincenzo, I laughed got in the shower and thought, hmm, Vincent, I like it.  But we ended up with a Samantha in the end.  Can't imagine having a boy now.
  • Violet was our original choice and then we both started questioning it.  I wanted Adele and DH wanted Elizabeth, in the end, we just went with Violet.

  • We were team green but had Jacob and Elizabeth picked out since high school. We then decided it would be Jacob Alfred, Alfred after my FIL and Elizabeth Love, my mother's maiden name. For most of the pregnancy, he was referred to as "Jacob Elizabeth". :-)

There were lots of team green June mamas! Love.

  • We were also Team Green and went to the hospital with a short list for each sex. My favorite girl names were Rose and Sylvia. MH's were Sylvia and Cora. We knew we were going to use Josephine for the MN (it's a family name). When MH said, "It's a girl!" I said, "Hello, Sylvia." Then I turned to him and said, "Right?" He took some time to think about it and, honestly, I think Rose would really fit her too, but he agreed she was a Sylvia. I adore her name and we get compliments on it all the time.

  • we talked names for years but often disliked each others suggestions. I had a sweety student named Abby and sorta fell in love with the name but not Abigail. At first dh wasn't sure but then I suggested the -ey ending since his name ends in -ey (Jeffrey). It also has a British feel and my mum is English. If we ever have a boy the only name we both liked was Jack but that may change over time...

  • DD's name was our 2nd choice. The first choice was Avery but it's too popular for us and DH's BFF's daughters name as well. We named DD Lana (Alana) after my mom.

For DS, his name wasn't even in the top 10. Our top 4 were, Benjamin, Andrew, Keene, and Max. We didn't feel like he matched those and went back to the drawing  board and picked his name out of a name book. DS's name is Asher.

  • For a girl it was the only choice we had and agreed on! Aubrie was actually DHs grandfathers name but we like it for a girl.  Boys name, we couldn't agree on Anything.

  • My top choice was Lydia, but DH wanted a name starting with M.
  • I loved Isabella and Olivia but DH really didn't like Olivia... He was ok with Isabella though and that was the only name we agreed on. I LOVE the name I just hate that it's so popular. Plus, I hate getting asked if I named her after Twilight. No no no....

I should add we were 'team green' until the end, but never could agree on a boy's name so thankfully we had a girl!
