I'm a dirty lurker over on the 3T board and there's a post about late ovulation. It made me go back and look at my charts and... damnit. I definitely ovulate late. CD18 is "early" ovulation for me.
Now I have no desire to wait until February to start the testing since I'm pretty sure it's not "bad luck" and we probably have an egg quality issue. Marvelous.
Re: Late ovulation.. could this be (one of) our issue(s)?
Late O could cause issues for some, but not in others. There have been many women with a late O chart go on to have successful pregnancy/birth. But, like you, I worry about that as well. CD 18 is 'early' for me (without clomid) I usually O CD 20+.
While it's later than the most, I would still consider us average. Typical/ average cycles range from 21-35 days long, so Oing in the early CD 20s would still keep us in the typical range, KWIM? My issue is I O on the later side (like you, CD 18+) and I start too early. The only medication that's corrected this is clomid, not even progesterone.
Try not to borrow trouble. I know when things aren't happening for us, it's natural to wonder what the heck is wrong with us! However, there are also women who have egg quality issues who O on or around your typical CD 13-15. Just ovulation dates alone can't give you this information. If it gives you peace of mind, I've gone through nearly all my testing (will get RPL results back Thursday) and everything came back beautifully- even though I O late, my hormones are by all appearances, fine.
Hope I made sense... when I read your post I remember thinking the same things right before I started my testing. Good luck to you
((hugs)) Thank you - I needed to hear that. I'm just having a rough few days and have mentally checked out of TTC until we have testing done. I just feel like I can't get my hopes up (even briefly) every month until I know for sure there isn't something "wrong."
This whole TTCAL 6+ thing is a total mindfvck.
Good luck with your results on Thursday - FX!
"Let's first talk about a "late" ovulation. Ovulation normally happens from CD 10 to CD 21. Ovulation that happens regularly after CD 21 is not considered normal. That does not mean you cannot get pregnant with late ovulation. Women get pregnant all the time even when they ovulate late. But your chances of getting pregnant are decreased significantly when you ovulate late. This is for several reasons:
The corpus luteum phase is the time between ovulation and the next menstrual period. If it's often less than 12 days then there may be a problem and your doctor should do some further testing."

I already read through all of that (thanks to Dr. Google), I just wanted some input here as well. I know you're not OB/GYNs but it's nice to talk things out with people who may have experienced the same things.

I've had a mix of late O cycles, I've had a ton of testing done with my OB and RE and nothing was found wrong.

FWIW - I ovulated around CD 40 and got pregnant with Aurora. I know she was not my take home baby, but I did carry her for 35 weeks and it wasn't my late ovulation that caused her stillbirth.
However, I do agree that the late ovulation does decrease our chances.
