TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

What should I expect?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect at my 1st consult with  the Fertility Specialist.  I am pretty nervous but happy to get the ball rolling and be proactive.  Mikey says we can't afford IVF/ICSI and I know that's probably something she will push given that Mikey's SA came back 0% morph.  I'm also petrified of the idea.  Honestly I'd really like to try IUI .  I know some may disagree, but after all...we did get pg naturally before.  There has GOT to be at least a couple good ones in there..right??  I've googled (yes I googled) and have seen so many success stories with IUI and 0% morph..then there were the people who said "don't waste your time"

What are your thoughts?  Any advice on what to ask when I'm there.  I am afraid I will be a deer in headlights when I walk in Indifferent

Re: What should I expect?

  • My first appointment was so quick. She was running behind, I had to get back to work..... it was just a spew of "Let's do this, let's try that, Oh yes, that sounds good." and I was out the door in 5 minutes.

I asked about clomid vs femara... she never used femara so she looked into it for me. She mentioned IUIs  down the road as well as other testing.

However I think yours would be different knowing your DHs SA results. You might want to look into getting a new SA done, and when that can happen.

  • I agree with Cashews, see about getting a repeat SA.  Since you're OOP they may have options for payment for you.

My husband has low morph (7% under the WHO standard) and my RE said if he had to pick one part of a SA that is the least important, morph is it.  However, I was his audience.

I think it's definitely worth a discussion since yes, you have gotten pregnant on your own and who knows what they can do with sperm washing before IUI.  T&Ps coming your way that you all can develop a treatment plan that will be successful for you and YH!

  • My first appt we went over my records from my OB, at the time I wasn't charting so the RE had me chart for a few cycles for her to see and also scheduled some basic bloodwork and tests such as HSG. She also ordered a SA for dh and sent him to a Urologist to make sure everything was good with him. Dh also got bloodwork done at my RE's office. We went over a plan of action and how long we've been trying. I initially started with clomid cycles at the RE, then moved on to IUI.

  • At mine we went over my husbands SA (I would get another done to confirm there is still zero morph) and went over the testing she would suggest for me.  Then, b/c it happened to be day 3, she did bloodwork and an ultrasound to take at look at the ovaries and ute.  She also laid out a probable plan, which would depend on the additional testing she was going to do in the next month.
