Unisom and Vit b6?

Anyone use them for morning sickness? I had dh grab some for me yesterday. my OB's website approves it and has the directions as 1/2 tablet Unisom before meals and 1 whole before bed. I assume the b6 is 1x a day.

Did it help? Right away or does it take a day or so?

I was so so sick yesterday, ugh.....hate it! I can't be as sick as I was with R and function all day with kids too! It was one thing when I could lay around and nap, not so easy this time around.

I am thankful to be pregnant again, but I must say I am not a happy camper and this will seal the "I am done after this one" deal. I will be almost 38 when this baby comes.....just can't keep up!

  • I did not use either of those, but I did try the Seaband wrist things for motion sickness when I was nauseous with E, and those really seem to work.  Safe and easy to use.

  • I have been wearing the Seabands unfortunately with no relief. I will try this route before begging for a script. With R I suffered and when m/s ended I was hit with reflux. Nexium was prescribed and was my wonder drug.

  • I hope that you feel better soon!!!

  • Seabands worked for me for about 2 weeks, but by 6.5 weeks I called and begged for Zofran.  I'm still throwing up first thing in the morning, but I haven't taken a dose of Zofran in 4 days.

I had never heard of the unisom and b6 thing until being on the 1st tri board/may mommies board with this pregnancy, but I took Zofran with T, so I knew it worked.

  • I started out with the Unisom/B6 a few weeks ago. It worked for a little while for me, but my m/s ended up getting pretty far out of control and I started Zofran last week.

Anyway, for the Unisom... make sure the main active ingrediant is **DOXYLAMINE** Which is usually only the tabs- not gel caps. I was told to try 1/2 tab at night and increase to 1 tab if needed. For the B6, I started with 25mg (1/4 tab) morning and afternoon and increased to 50mg (1/2 tab) twice a day.  They said not to go over 100mg/day of B6.

I hope this works for you!! Feel better soon.

Edited to correct... Doxylamine- NOT diphenhydramine.  Oops

  • I'm so sorry you are so sick. I was so sick with B. I did the unisom and b6. The only thing it helped with was me sleeping at night. Never helped during the day. I have no other suggestions since nothing helped until I went on zofran at 9 weeks. I hope you get some relief soon!

  • Oh jeeze, I'm sorry you're so sick. I don't have much advice, but i just wanted to say your ticker is flying (I'm sure it doesn't feel that way) and hopefully you can get some relief soon!
  • I had Hyperemesis with Belle by the time I was 10 weeks they perscribed me Zofran. That was what saved me. I was still pretty nauseus through out the pregnancy but at least was able to start to eat and keep something down.

They never had me try Unisom or B6 but I almost tried it before they perscribed the Zofran. Good luck! I know how horrible it is. I was on bedrest from 13 weeks until I delivered because of it another reason why we haven't had another yet. Don't know how I will do it with a toddler.

  • I used the regimen....my doc suggested 1/2 a unisom before bed and B6 during the day. She said to try that first to see how you react to it-and believe me, the 1/2 tab knocked me out at bedtime. She said if it made me too drowsy not to take it during the day. To be honest, it didn't help me at all. If anything it just helped me to get some sleep. I was still nauseous from sun-up to sun-down everyday until 18/19wks and nothing that worked with DD worked this time around. Not fun!
