Bedtime Routine

Just curious what your bedtime routine is with twins? Do you do CIO? How do you keep the other one asleep if just one baby is CIO? Also at what age did you do CIO?  Thanks!

Re: Bedtime Routine

  • Hi! First off we have 9 month old twins (boy/girl) and they have always shared a room/bed.  In the beginning in the pnp and now in their own separate cribs.  We were blessed with them sleeping through the night at 10 weeks old.  Around 8 months they decided that was not going to fly anymore.  We tried the whole lets just let them CIO deal, and it just went on and on and didn't seem to help.  I started to feel guilty (they were preemies) so I just couldn't do it, and inevitably no one got sleep.  We are currently on week 3 of our version of the Ferber method.  And its going great.  We usually have a quiet night with no wake ups from either baby, but if we do its usually 1 baby 1x a night. Here's what we do.  We now sleep with baby's door closed, and our door open. (used to be both doors open but we have a monitor and their door being open is unnecessary if ours is, and we can hear them anyway and when they do cry its less loud with their door closed and the monitor right at our bed)  So, if they cry (1 or both) I go in I stand next to the crib, I pat their belly, or say "Shhh" or "its ok," but I dont really make a lot of eye contact, and I DO NOT pick them up.  I do this in increments of 3 5 8 10 15 20 30 minutes.  But have never even had to get past 8 minutes.  As far as the minutes, do what is comfortable for you, it can be less and further spaced out or much further spaced out if you like.  Typically I am awake when they are crying, and once I hear them cry I wait 3 minutes (no timer or watch just pretty much a guestimate).  Go in, do the thing, close the door go back to my room, wait 5, go in same deal, go out wait 8 etc etc.  We've never had to get past 8, and even thought the first 2-3 nights were rougher its so so so good now :) Hope this helps.  I know its long, Im not great at explaining things in short terms.
