Places for 3YO bday party? South of river?

Hello - last year, we hosted DD's 2nd birthday party at my house, and we quickly realized our house just can't handle that many people, as we have lots of family, and about 15-20 little ones we need to invite, and once you add adults onto that it's easily 40-50 people total.

We are trying to think of other places to host DD's party this year for her 3rd birthday.  We've looked at the "Pump It Up" places but once we add pizza and cake to the 'play time' we're topping the $500 mark, and I really didn't want to spend that much!

Any other ideas?  We're stumped - thanks!

  • Can you give a more specific area?

Some general ideas are a church, community center or does a family member live in an apartment complex with a party room?

Anywhere in the Eagan, Burnsville, Apple Valley area would be fine.  We don't mind having to drive somewhere for the party, as long as it's in those general surrounding areas.

  • a bowling alley, the zoo, renting a room at one of the community centers (probably one of the best ideas).  If you got a room at the Eagan community center then you could have play time at The Blast followed by birthday party.  They have party packages available but maybe it is cheaper to rent a room somewhere else in the building, bring your own food, and pay admission per child.  Hmmm, this idea is sounding better and better for my soon to be 4 yr olds birthday in March.

  • The blast is a great place for parties (my nephew has had his past 2 birthdays there). The MN Zoo is great but the cost can be really high as you have to pay for everyone to get in (even members). You could also check at a local Church to see if you can rent a room (this might be your cheapest option)
  • Invite less people or think about having it at a time of day where you don't need to serve a meal. Hosting parties is expensive, especially outside the home. Even if you find a cheap community center room or church hall, you're going to need activities for all those kids in addition to food.

We did a Pump It Up party for my older son and just hosted mid-afternoon with only cake and ice cream to eat. It was the best party ever. They took care of absolutely everything, from invitations to making a list of who gave what, which was awesome since our 3 yr old was only 10 days old at the time.
