Hi everyone!
I am a nest poster and bump lurker and it is time for me to jump in posting here! I changed my SN for privacy reasons. Anyways, quick intro. Found out I was pregnant on 12/23, told DH on Christmas and had my first appt today.
Here's where the questions start!
Because I have irregular periods (last one started 10/28 with the help of progesterone) they did an ultrasound today for dating purposes. Ultrasound showed 5 weeks, 3 days. There was a gestational sac but no yoke sac. Has anyone else experienced not seeing a yoke sac at this time? The person doing my ultrasound didn't seem concerned and said to come back in 2 weeks, and said that I would be amazed by how different it would be. Just seems from what I've been reading that there should at least be the start of a yoke sac at that time.
Second question- they didn't do any blood work for beta levels, etc. Is that normal not to check any of those things? I needed progesterone to get my period (hadn't had it in 9 months until October) so I would think that it would be a concern for a pregnancy as well?
I left a message for the doctor with the progesterone question but it's always nice to get feedback from people who may have experienced this as well. Thanks much and I look forward to posting here more!
Re: Intro and help with some u/s and progesterone questions!
Congrats on the pregnancy!
I don't know much about the yolk sac at that gestation but I know that many people have had a similar situation . The baby is so tiny it takes time to see anything so you have to go back when your a little further along. ESP with irregular periods your dates still may be off due to late implantation ect.
I would call your doc and ask to have your blood work done to see if your betas are doubling. They should run progesterone at the same time to make sure it's within healthy range. They werent originally going to do it for me and I had to ask, and I'm glad I did because my progesterone was low.
Try not to stress and take care of yourself. Good luck at your next appointment!
When I went in at 5w5 days, I could see the yolk sac but it took him a bit to find it.
Bloodwork to check beta levels depends on the doctor, and a big reason some women get them is because they either had treatments to get pregnant or had a previous loss! If there is no cause for concern in that area then no betas is pretty standard. But I'm not sure if your menstrual history has anything to do with it.

Welcome and Congratulations!
Not everyone gets beta's it comes down to your history and if you have IF, any M/C, or any other reason for being high risk.
I went in at 5w1d and saw only a sac. I went back in 5w6d and saw a baby in the sac with a flickering HB. Normally, you don't see the HB til a few days later into 6W.
Congrats to you and DH! Welcome
That is really early for a u/s....I'm sure the next one you'll be able to see much more!
I would definitely follow up on your progesterone question and get your beta's checked just for peace of mind. Good luck!
