I know it has been asked so many times but I can't find the posts. What is the best lens to get for a beginner to get with a DSLR? I am looking between Cannon and Nikon. I want something that works indoors and outdoors. Thanks!!
I have a Canon Rebel and the best lens to get with the Canon is the 50 mm f/1.8 in my opinion. I couldn't tell you anything about Nikon, though.
i have a similar lens for my nikon - 50mm 1.8. it's my go-to lens in most situations. when i'm not using that, i have a 35mm for wider shots. i rarely use the zoom lens that came with the camera.

I have a Nikon and I love it. I use the 55-200mm lens that came in my kit. I wouldn't spend too much money on your first lens. Learn to use the camera before plunking down tons of cash on a higher end lens.
