girls who had NT scan

do they give you an idea that "things look good" right then and there or do you have to sit down with the doc to talk about the results?  My meeting with doc isn't until about a week later and i am sure i will be dying to know.

Re: girls who had NT scan

  • They told me things looked good right then based on the u/s, but would not give me definitive numbers until my bloodwork came back (about a week later).

  • They couldn't tell me anything about the bloodwork but the woman who did the ultrasound told me that the measurement on the neck needed to be less than 3 and it was 1.2 which is wonderful. She told me "as far as I can tell things look really good".

  • I depends, I think. Sonographers aren't supposed to tell you anything. The sonographer did mine and said nothing, but the high risk OB came in and took a look and said everything looked good. Then I got a call a week later from the genetic counselor telling me that my bloodwork was beautiful.

  • We asked our tech how things looked and he said "everything looks good."  The blood test results we have to wait to discuss with our OB at our next appointment.  Mine is 4 weeks from my NT scan.  I just figured if there was something to be concerned about, my OB's office would call me.

This. The doctor did mine and gave me a "Everything looks great and normal." Bloodwork will be in about a week. I left feeling good that things are mostly likely fine.

  • My OB sent me to another office to do the scan. The tech did the ultrasound, which took like 15 minutes, and I had blood drawn. A nurse sat down with us in her office and reviewed the scan. She showed us what a normal NT scan looked like and an abnormal scan. We got the "everything is in the normal range and looks great" right then and there. We go to our regular OB in a week, but I don't know why. The NT nurse said we go back to her office in 5 weeks for a second scan and follow up to finish the health screening where they will review all the appendages and hopefully tell us boy or girl! So exciting!

This is interesting because they told me nothing and I noticed that the measurements they were doing over and over were about 1.5-1.8 so that makes me feel better. The u/s tech basically said "I can't say anything about the results" at the beginning of the test so we didn't ask anything further. We did meet with the MW after but she said the results of the test wouldn't be in until the next week. And we waiting Faaaaafreakingeva to see her so I would have liked to just go home instead.

  • I had mine last week - the US tech told us that the neck measurement was in the normal range, but wouldn't give a number until the doctor came in to confirm the measurement.  I had my blood work done a week prior, so they plugged it all into the model and gave me the printout with my risks, the CRL and the Papp-A and HCG measurements.   I'm in California, and this is part of the state screening process.  Not sure if getting copies is the norm or not - my doctor always notes that I am to be given a copy of all test results (bloods, etc.) so you may want to request that of your doctor to be sure.

  • The tech told us the results but gave me the wrong units (told me 2 cm not mm).  Oops!  She also pointed out the baby's nasal bone and pinky finger.  Then I had my blood drawn and had my visit with my doc who went over the NT scan results with me (correct units this time) and told me that based on that, things looked good.  Yesterday his nurse called and gave me the detailed results because I had asked for them.  Every US tech has their own rules they follow.  Some are told they can't say a thing (so just pay attention to the measurements since those are on the screen) and others have more freedom.  The techs for my clinic are no longer allowed to give early gender guesses because enough women complained when the early guess was wrong, even when they were warned this was possible.  The docs got tired of hearing it so the rule was enacted.  Boo!

  • I just wanted to add that some of the differences in what everyone has or hasn't been told could stem from who's actually doing the u/s. While a lot of techs may not be allowed to say anything, my first u/s was done by a nurse in the ultrasound department. My NT scan is being done by a Nurse Practitioner in MFM. I'm wondering if those of us who have been told more info have had RNs doing their u/s?

  • During the u/s, she said that everything looked perfectly normal.  We didn't get the results from the bloodwork until a few days later.

  • I didn't need to ask if the results look good because I could see the measurements she was getting on the nuchal fold and they were 1.4. I knew anything under 3 was good, so I didn't bother to ask.

Once I got my blood work, I got confirmation that I was right. My risk for DS and T18 decreased by thousands from where it started based on my age. All is good!

  • sonographer said nothing.

dr walks in. shakes my hands. asks me about my asthma, how i'm feeling. then says good day.

i pipe up - um? is everything looking good?

he says, oh yeah! everything looks fine. we'd tell you if it looked bad.

i said, i didnt know that. next time, you'll have to work on your communication skills.

    he laughed.

so if they dont say anything, ask.

  • They did say that things looked good but wouldn't give me too many details.  They said that if I didn't get a phone call in a week, everything was fine. I also saw my OBGYN yesterday and she gave me more details. Everything looks good.

  • I had a referral for my NT scan last pregnancy, and the sonographer told us the measurements of the nuchal fold, as well as what range was considered normal.  She also said that the measurement was the most important component of the test.

If you wanted, you could check with your doctor and see if you could get the bloodwork done prior to your appointment so you could get the whole shebang right then and there...

I wasn't able to do it last time, but just had my blood sucked this morning for my scan next week.  :)
