No More Separate MMR Vaccines?

Has anyone heard that the vaccine manufacturers are no longer making separate vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella?  I was on a list at my pediatrician's office to get the separate vaccinations because they only order the vaccines in groups of 10 for cost reasons.  Yesterday one of the administrators phoned to say that it unlikely that we will be able to get the individual shots for my son because the manufacturers are no longer making separate shots.  She said they have stopped because CDC recommends against giving individual shots.  Just wondering if anyone has heard anything similar?  I apologize if this has been discussed recently on the board. I've been away from the board for a few weeks. Thanks.

    My doctor said Merck stopped manufacturing it, so it can only be obtained from Europe, which is tricky and expensive.  He recommended waiting until 2 or 3 to get the shot, which is what we'll do.. probably closer to 3.

    Yes, I have heard it.  It was difficult to obtain in the past year or so.  I'm even having a difficult time finding the MMR that doesn't have the varicella vaccine with it.  We will not give the MMR until he's at least 3 but we didn't mind the chicken pox one.

    Hmmm. Thanks. Very interesting article. Now I understand.  Well, as an alternative to the individual shots, my doctor has suggested holding off on MMR until age 2.  So, I guess that's the route we'll go unless we hear otherwise regarding the availability of the separate shots.  Thanks for the link!!!

    I actually asked about this at my 9 month visit and was told the manufacturer stopped making it seperately.  At this point, DD is going to get the MMR shot at a year, and we're going to put off the chickenpox shot.  I'd much rather she got CP naturally.  We'll give it to her at 10 if she hasn't gotten it yet. 

    For those of you that are putting off the MMR shot, why are you doing so?

    I can't speak for everyone, but we are holding off until his immune system is a little mature. With MMR, the child is being injected with three live viruses which can be very taxing for an immuno compromised child.  So, many safe vaccine researchers and advocates recommend holding off until 18 to 24 months, particularly for MMR.

    We are holding off because of the additives used.  I am highly allergic to one of them and ds had a bad reaction to his first round when he was a baby.
