Re: Xmas gift "poll"/confessions?

  • DH's aunt is Nat's godmother. She was SOOO excited to give Nat her gift she made me come peek in the gift bag before present time. It's a florescent pinky/orange-y cheetah snowsuit. I think animal prints are super tacky on little girls and this one takes the cake. It's awful. Just awful.

Oh and she wrapped it with a black faux fur hat and mittens. Gah!

  • First... Telyco WOW!

Greyson got a Nerf dart thing from my uncle. It is marked for ages 5-7 or something like that. My uncle thankfully forgot to give it to him when we were opening gifts so we opened it when uncle wasn't around. We all (mom, dad, DH) stared in confusion.

I haven't seen it since he opened it.

  • OMG, Brianna got 25, yes TWENTY-FIVE pairs of little girl underwear for x-mas and all the same size!  21 pairs were all from the same person.  And it wasn't like she just started PTing and needed 25 pairs, she has been wearing underwear since last spring!

I also got the ugliest red and green, but not Christmas, bedspread from the xmas tree shop.  It looks like something you would find old and dusty in some old persons' camp they haven't used in 20 yrs.  Interestingly, a 20something person gave it to me.

    I hear re-gift!

  • haha...and here's the thing...I NEVER wear patterns or prints or ANYTHING even remotely close to this. Every single piece of clothing I own is a solid. I think I wore a striped shirt a couple of months ago, but that's it :)

We have had this problem in the past.  Last yr Ty got a science book set/reader that was very obviously marked on the packaging for ages 12+  Like anatomy type books!  Apparently they thought a three yr old needed to learn how the human reproduction system works.

  • We got a weird looking Santa from DH's aunt that I know DH's parents gave her last year. Weirdest part was DH's parents were with us when we opened it. Awkward re-gifting moment.

  • We honestly didn't get anything THAT bad this year. Usually DH's aunts send some pretty awful gifts.. but even they did OK.

Although my parents really kind of dropped the ball on a gift for DH.. they labeled all of our gifts for both of us.. but they were.. Tickets to Les Mis and a les mis cd.. (he will come with me but he's totally NOT excited about it), our explore and more membership, which is really for the kids, and the Glee Christmas CD!

We just did gifts with my SIL and her FI this morning.. She got me a few things that are NMS, but not awful.. a nylon scarf thingy, a little tiny purse, and an umbrella... and some clothes for the girls that are a little ununsual, and probably too big, but not terrible..

Ok, now I feel like crap because I have this shirt and love it.  Hehe...just kidding!  This is pretty bad.  I would have loved to see the fake "oh my gosh....thank you" acting you did when you received it.

  • We got a clock that is so NMS and it plays music every hour...not a good thing with 2 small kids and a dog.

  • Eh - I gave a better response to that than to the huge graphic/bloody crucifix we got the night before as a belated house warming gift. Plus, it had the gift receipt attached :)

This year was over the top. It usually is fine.

  • Well, I didn't get the license plate holder but Santa did put men's socks (that's what they look like anyway) in my stocking.  Even Claire said, "Look! Daddy's socks!)

Claire got a Zhu Zhu pet which I am regifting at our White Elephant exchange on NYE.

But Telyco - YOU WIN!  That is awful.  Does the person who gave it to you realize that you're not 75?)

  • Haha! My favorite part, in case anyone is wondering, is the lace overlay covering the left boob. Somehow that lace morphs into the actual shirt...it's quite amazing ;)

  • My SIL's got Evan a gift bag full of $ store junk. A toothbrush (fine), mouthwash (WTF, he's 2), some playdough type junk that says right on the package for ages 8 and up because it's toxic, glowsticks, and a few random stuffed animals. They probably spent $10 total on him and I bought each of their kids (4 in all) $20 gift cards to various stores. I know it's not the $ spent, but the thought that counts... however there was no thought put into this gift. He can't even use half the stuff, I threw most of it in the garbage.
  • Telyco- who actually gave you that?  Awesome.

My FIL and SMIL almost always cut the tags off of their gifts which makes me crazy.  This year they gave me matching stuff from Landsend that is awesome and all had the tags on.  Then I opened a red zip-up sweater vest that had no tags and seemed regifted.  It was definitely a gift for someone 60+ IMO.  I was so psyched about the other stuff that I am sure they could see the surprise on my face.

Everyone else did pretty well.  I have one aunt who never knows how old the kids are and buys them super random sizes and this year she was dead-on.  For example, at Mia's 1st birthday, she couldn't remember how old she was LOL.

  • MIL bought Abby a few tops that are clearly for summer and I don't know if they will fit her come summer.  Right after she opened them, MIL says I hope they will fit.  She bought them back when she bought the stuff for Abby's birthday so even if she still had the receipt(not that she would give it to me), I probably couldn't exchange them.  DH's aunt bought Abby a Memory game.  I don't think Abby is quite ready for games yet.  Oh well at least she can have fun playing with the pieces.

  • DD got one of those dolls with the hard plastic bendy hair that you can put clips, etc in....its the dumbest thing ever. The body is teeny tiny with a HUGE, heavy head and the hair is so hard to style....seriously, like a 2yr old would even touch it?! She hasn't touched it since it was taken out of its package on Xmas eve! I want to chuck it already!
