Baby Names

Kendall?

Do you think it is a weird stretch to call a girl named Kendall, elle?  I like the name, but I shorten everything and I know I would shorten the name.  Not a fan of kenny for a little girl, but I thought elle was cute.

I know, it isn't pronounced Kend-elle, but Kend-all, when you say it fast, you don't really hear the difference.

UGH  I can't pick a darn name.  My aunt and mom text me all day with suggestions and this was the latest and one of few I don't hate!

  • That was one of my name options if LO was a girl, but hes a boy. Love the name

  • Eh. I personally think it's a little of a stretch. Both are cute names, but one doesn't seem to derive from the other. If you like Elle, then why not just use Elle?

  • I think it's definitely a stretch. There's no "elle" sound in the name anywhere. Why does everyone need a nickname? What's wrong with calling her Kendall? It's only two syllables.

If you must, just call her K.

  • I must weird. I've heard of Kendall used as a girl name over and over. I never thought it to be anything but a girl name actually.

It's nice, normal and spelled right so it gets my vote. It also ages better than the 800 other spelled wrong K names out there.

It's not necessarily my style, but I do like it.

    I agree with this.

I also agree with the poster who said to just name her Elle if that's what you want to call her.

  • Love it and the nickname. Kendall was one of my faves, DH preferred Kennedy.  Her middle name starts with a "C" so her nickname will be KC (pronounced Casey).  I also sometimes call her Ken or even Dee.

Agreed!! I do not get elle from Kendall.  Kendall was on my list, but NMS anymore.  I like Elle by itself.

  • I don't think it's a stretch at all. I know adult women named Kendall. That said I really dislike the name. Elle is cute, though I wouldn't change the spelling of a name to accomodate the NN. I would use it as a FN or MN alone.

  • I think it's fine! If I were to name my daughter Kendall, I would call her Kenna
