When AF doesn't return...

I was never regular to begin with but I am a little suprised that AF still has yet to show herself.   I'm BFing probably 3-4 times a day right now.  Anyone else get preggers even though you didn't have AF while BFing?  Should I just assume that it won't happen until LO is completely weaned?  We aren't in a hurry to get pregnant again (although it would be welcomed) but I'm curious about other people's experiences.

  • My niece came along before my sister's AF returned.  The girls are 26 months apart.

  • We're over 18 months, nursing once or twice a day (sometimes no times) and I still haven't had AF. I have PCOS, but always had about 60 day cycles pre-DS. You can still get pregnant, you just have to catch that first ovulation. My friend has hers about 16 months apart from that.

    Good luck!

  • I EBF with DS # 1 for 13 months with no AF until I weaned.  I am EBF DS # 2 - he's nearly 6 months with no AF yet this time too.

I've heard you can get pregnant while EBF, but I am not sure about ovulating when no AF is around.

Not sure if you were referring to my comment - but I said you would have to catch that FIRST ovulation.

The reason we aren't getting AF is because we're not ovulating. If we were to ovulate, we would get AF approx. 2 weeks later. If you get pregnant during that first ovulation, you'll just never get AF. After 6 months of EBF (and with some people before) you could really ovulate any time. Apparently I can hold off AF forever - which is depressing when you're TTC and don't want to force weaning.

Just clarifying my comment if I said something funny. It's super boring here today too so I have lots of time :)
