Henry vs. Gavin

Would you consider one more popular than the other right now?  Like them both, a little worried about the popularity of both...

  • I actually looked up Gavin on the SSA list for 2010 - it is at #37 - (#20 in my state - Wisconsin). So it's not top 10 but is pretty soundly top 50. I don't consider it to be too popular, I've never met another Gavin or have heard it much on this board. I don't know anyone named Henry but it does seem to be a popular choice around here.

  • I prefer Henry, so I do know it is popular.  I think #60-ish nationally and #20-sh in Oregon.

  • I would have guessed Henry was more popular just because I see it on here a lot.  I was surprised to look up the SSN list and find that it was #67 compared to Gavin at #37.
  • Henry.  Every time.

  • Both are nice names but seem to be on the opposite end of the spectrum to me. One being old fashion and traditional and the other more modern.  I love Gavin, it is actual our choice for a boy. I don't know anyone named Gavin IRL but I have met a ton of men named Henry. All older than me. I think you would be safe with either one.
  • I really like Henry. My husband would never go for it though. Gavin is VERY popular right now
  • I know more Gavins than Henrys. But my cousin is a Gavin. I prefer Henry though.

  • From reading on here, I would say Henry is more popular, but IRL I know more small children named Gavin.

Personally, I prefer Henry. Henry will always be classic to me while I think Gavin is pretty trendy.

  • I like Gavin.  I'm not a fan of old man names like Henry.
  • I think Henry is timeless.... Gavin is very trendy (and has a very 90's sound to me), I'm not really a fan. Go for Henry!

  • Henry > Gavin, definitely.

Gavin will forever come across as trendy to me simply because of Gavin Rossdale. I realize his rockstar days are now a decade or so behind him, but that's all I can picture when I hear his first name.

  • Gavin is our top choice for a boy!  Henry was my Great-Grandfather's name, but I also know 1 little boy with the name Henry. Its just NMS.

  • I prefer Henry over Gavin. But the only Gavin I know is in his forties.

I always think of Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of the band Bush and Gwen Stefanni's DH when I hear the name.

  • Henry. But that's mainly because I'm a teacher and the name Gavin was ruined for me by two students.

Exactly this.  Henry is tied for my #1 favourite boy name.
