Hi Girls, how soon do you find a pediatrian? And after having the baby, does the pediatrician see her the first week? I'm just curious if I should start looking for one now and when to call to set up the new little patient? Thanks!!
I think I called the pediatrician I wanted DD to go to around 5 months. She was born at 8:15pm, and he saw her for the first time the next morning. I don't know if all hospitals and doctors work that way, but the good pediatricians in my area do rounds at the hospital before starting private practice each morning, though they rotate so we may see a different pediatrician in the rotation this time.

They have pediatricians at the hospital when you have the baby. The pediatrician will look at the baby for the first time when LO is born, then the hospital will schedule a follow up at the pediaticians office. You can also find your own, but they set one up for you right away
I found my pediatrician while i was pregnant (about 6 months) and when I went to LD to deliver they asked me if I had a pediatrician and i gave the name and they called him after i delivered. he came and saw LO the 1st morning and then came back the 2nd morning to discharge her.
He also had us make an appt for a few days after we left the hospital for a quick check up
ask your OB for recommendations if you do not know where to start

This is how the hospital did it when my DD was born.
I went into labor early with #1 so we hadn't found a pedi yet but had a recommendation from a friend, so we called him from the hospital. We were in the NICU so we just saw hospital drs while we were there and then went to the regular pedi 2 days after we came home.
I would ask recommendations from family/friends/coworkers. I'm a pharmacist and have decided that there are some pediatricians that I would NEVER take my child to based on constant errors due to dosing/drugs/allergies etc that I have to call and fix for specific doctors. There are also certain offices that I would never go to (even if the MD is ok) because it is virtually impossible to get through to anyone to fix a problem or get things clarified, etc, in a timely manner. If you have a good relationship with your local pharmacist, I would ask for their opinion, more so for which pediatricians or pediatrician offices to stay away from!

The hospital asked I believe when we checked in who our pediatrician was going to be. He came over and seen my kids in the nursery the next day since my kids were born on Sunday's. But I know people in my area now are having a hard time finding one since a lot are not accepting new patients so that might be something to check into?! He also made a 2 week check up for them when we were in the hospital.
I hope you find one that you love! I love my dr. he is no BS kind of guy and just lays it out there.

I'm starting to look for one now. Your pediatrician will see your baby for the first time after delivery and then at two weeks I believe?
If you don't have one picked out the hospital will have one on staff.
I googled, ask co-workers, OB's office and on here for recommendations to narrow it down. And trying to keep it within a 15 min radius of my home. My OB also made a good suggestion, try to get a office that has a lactation consultant otherwise it's expensive to hire one! Evening/weekend hours. Sick vs well areas.
We have already found our pediatrician, made sure that his office accepts our insurance, etc. And his office has an orientation meeting for all new patients/expectant parents (only offered once a month) that you must attend before the baby is born. The next month was already full, so we couldn't get in until February. I'm not sure if this is typical or not, but it's another reason why it's probably not a bad idea to start looking at least a few months before you are due in case you run into something like this as well. Good luck!
With DD we found our pediatrician at like 8 months pregnant. I delivered over the state line so the pedi couldn't see her at the hospital (most hospitals have on-staff pedi's for this purpose). The pedi at the hospital was concerned about jaundice so we took her in at 1 week old, then again at 2 weeks old. If jaundice wasn't a concern the pedi would have just had us come in at 2 weeks.
I set DS up around 8ish months. All they said was ok, they would make a note. Then you fill out the hospital registration with the pedi info. My hospital hasa nicu nurse there for delivery to do an exam (and if needed a nicu dr), otherwise my on-call pedi office (its a group, but I have one pedi for all well viists) comes every morning to check the baby.
Then at hospital check out- they told me when to call and schedule the 1st baby appt. (For a BF baby usually its a weight-check sometime before the actual 2 wk appt) And just filled out the paper work then.
