Fluoride

Hi ladies, how are you?  At my LO's 6 month appointment today the pedi talked about fluoride.  She said that if we were on well water that he would need to be supplemented with fluoride.  I told her that we had city water but that LO did not drink it as we buy the ready to feed only (he has reflux and the RTF is thicker so it helps his situation).  She said that she didn't know if the RTF had fluoride in it or not and that I should check it out.  She said if it didn't that we would need to start using tap water and using the powder formula.

Has anyone else discussed this with pedi or came across the same situation?

Thank you!

Re: Fluoride

  • DS is on the powder formula (has been since 6 weeks old). We mix it with purified bottled water. However, our tap water does not contain fluoride. The Pedi Rx'd a vitamin at his 6 month well check and it contained a small amount of fluoride.

  • You should do some research on this topic. There is a lot of controversy as to how much, if any, flouride kids should have before they turn 2.

  • Our pedi is very pro-flouride.  We use powder mixed with city tap water, which does have it.

This.  Definitely do some research.  There's actually controversy on whether or not people in general should be consuming fluoride.  Some would consider you very lucky for not having it in your water.

  • My pedi hasn't really talked to me about it.  They always ask what kind of water we use for her bottles and I tell them Nursery (which contains fluoride).
