Valley Vs. Hackensack

Any opinions? I always thought that I would deliver at Morristown but I live in Bergen County now. I don't mind driving to MMH for apts but my hubby thinks it's too far (35 min)

Also does anyone have any OB/GYN recommendations for physicians associated with Valley or Hackensack?

Thanks!

Re: Valley Vs. Hackensack

  • My sister delivered both of her boys at Valley and the staff was wonderful - very friendly and accommodating.  Visiting hours were not strictly enforced.  My oldest nephew (3.5 yrs) also spent some time in the NICU (10 days) and the staff there was unbelievable!  He had seizures shortly after he was born.  They diagnosed him really fast and took amazing care of him. By the time he came home from the hospital, they had him on a schedule and sleeping through the night!

I am due in March and am also delivering there and I can't wait.

I don't know anything about Hackensack, but from what I hear it is supposed to be a good hospital too.

As for doctors associated with Valley - Valley Center for Women's Health.  Dr. Zeldina (woman) is wonderful!

    Good luck!

  • All of my nieces and nephew (as well as myself) were born at Valley. I am personally delivering at Hackensack - it's closer and has an amazing NICU. My doctors group is located AT the hospital - Dr. Silva, Dr. Kopp, Dr. Gerardis, Dr. Schwarz - LOVE THEM and their staff!

  • I choose Valley, its closer to where I live.  Catherine Zeta Jones delivered there as well as many of my friends.  I went to visit the hospital last week DH thought it was great.  The best part is all new mothers get a private room!

THIS EXACTLY!!! We have the same doctors.  They have been amazing.  I can't imagine this whole experience without them.

  • I delivered last time at Valley and will do so again in Feb/March.  The staff was phenominal, several stayed after their shift just to see the sex of our baby (we were team green).  Everything went great, and although I have no personal experience, I hear Hackensack is a great hospital as well.  I definately agree with PP regarding some doctors only deliver at one.  Mine is only at Valley... Dr Melody Behnam - Cedar Hill OBGYN.  She is great (and based out of Wyckoff and Ridgewood).  She even came in on her weekend off to deliver!

  • I personally am delivering in Hackensack it's close (i live about 8 blocks away) and it's got an amazing maternity unit, my best friend delivered at holy name in teaneck for her daughter and at hackesack for her son she definitely says hackensack took better care of her. my dr is Anna Collado she's around the corner from the hospital (Hackensack Heights OB GYN)  and he and her staff (all females) are on call constantly and are amazing..
  • I delivered at Valley in August and was VERY pleased with my experience.  Nurses were wonderful, and as a previous poster mentioned, the visiting hours and nunmber of guests was not strictly enforced, which was nice when several family members wanted to visit at one time.  I go to Valley Center for Women's Health, and love all of the doctors in the practice.

  • I loved my experience at Valley even though Hackensack is a very good hospital.  I think Hackensack would be very crazy busy and Valley more peaceful.  My daughter was born with Dr. Melody Behnam who was amazing and sweet.  I actually went to see Dr. John Marcus but I went into labor while he was out on vacation.
  • I delivered my 1st DD at Valley in 2008... I heard wonderful things about valley so I wanted to deliver there... well... I had a pretty disappointing experience... it was when Pascack closed so they were over crowded - private rooms were a challenge to get & you had to PAY for them... (even tho my insurance covered private rooms). I am hoping they changed things up because I love my obgyn (Dr. Weidman, Franklin Lakes) and he only delivers there... Good Luck!
