Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Did anyone experience pretty constant bleeding for a couple days and have a normal pregnancy?

I am pretty positive I miscarried.  This pregnancy was a complete surprise; we weren't exactly planning on getting pregnant again right now but we were excited just a bit overwhelmed!  But, I started with some spotting early last week that turned into heavier bleeding Thursday and stayed that way through this past Tuesday.  My doctor sent me for a recheck of hormone levels last Thursday and then again yesterday and now I am waiting to hear back from her nurse today.  The nurse sort of acted like in a round about way she wasn't totally writing off this being a viable pregnancy anyway....I just for one never had anything like this with DS but also it seemed like quite a bit of blood to be normal.  I've prepared myself for the worse and kind of already accepted if that is what happened, it is what it is but just curious if any of you ladies experienced this in any of your pregnancies and things turned out ok....

  • My friend was told she was having a miscarriage. She decided to let things take their natural course instead of taking a prescription and scheduling a D&C. Her doc made a follow-up appointment to make sure that her body was flushing out the miscarriage properly, performed an ultrasound, and they found a healthy baby with a strong heartbeat.

The best course would just be to talk to your doc. Good luck!

  • How far along are you? It is certainly possible that everything is fine. I had spotting off and on for 16 weeks with Ro, though it was never heavy. I also had similar spotting with my first pregnancy which did end in miscarriage. No reason for bleeding was ever found for either.  It could be implantation, irritable cervix, placenta previa. Your best bet is to see your doctor and get an ultrasound to check things out. {hugs} to you. Waiting sucks.

  • I know that it could go either way. I've heard of bleeding happening during pregnancy unrelated, and the pregnancy is fine. I had a natural miscarriage and it was very obvious that it was what it was. It was basically like a labor, with cramps and labor pains and lots of bleeding. I would make an appointment and go see your doctor. Good luck!

  • I had the same experience as a previous poster- my miscarriage was just like labor. I didn't know I was pregnant until I started having brown spotting.

All you can do is wait. I'd suggest not getting a D&C right away and see what your body does. They may even prescribe you mifeprestone to help pass it. You'll have to get bloodwork done every few days but I'd do that before I did a D&C. I've had two and while not terrible, they're no fun.

  • I woke up to heavy bleeding early in my pregnancy. It was bright red and had multiple clots throughout the day. I was convinced I had miscarried. I went to the doctor and was told I probably had and that an ultrasound could be done the ext day. They also took blood to test.

AT the ultrasound, there was a heartbeat but a clot on th eplacenta. I had some bleeding and some clotting for a few weeks while the clot lef t the body.

Baby is 14 months old now and fine.

  • Thanks ladies...turns out it was a confirmed miscarriage.  My hcg levels are down to 20 now.  Thankfully I do not have to have a D&C.  My doctor's nurse called me back today and was very kind about it all... we weren't planning to get pregnant this soon but were excited about it so it kind of really stinks! But, I know there's a reason for it all...

  • I'm so sorry.  Whether you are planning it or not, whether it's 4 weeks or 20 weeks, a loss sucks.  The miscarriage/pregnancy loss board is awesome.
  • I'm sorry for your loss. :(
