Success after IF

Another for those who are bored :) Lies we tell our kids

There was a similar post a month or two ago about the little lies we tell to make things easier - it cracked me up, but I didn't have anything to contribute at the time.

Now, though, I find myself lying to DS all. the. time.  Most I think are "harmless" and will naturally cease as he gets older - but I do feel guilty about the frequency of it!

My top offenders:

-  Blue (of Blue's Clues) is "sleeping"

-  XYZ (crackers, milk, whatever he's asking for "more" of) is "all gone" (when we really have a cupboard full, I just don't want him to have any more)

You?

Re: Another for those who are bored :) Lies we tell our kids

  • Blue sleeps a lot in our house too.
    siggy should be here!
  • Loading the player...
  • -Movies I don't like (or the DVD player in the car, unless it's a long trip) are "broken". And no, mommy can't "fix it".

    - Food that I don't want him to have is "yucky" or "dirty".

It was funny on Christmas Eve, he kept trying to take a piece of (very rummy) rum cake and I told him "no, that's icky, we don't want that," and I had to explain to my SIL's sister (who was eating it) that it wasn't a judgment on alcohol or her for eating it, just what I say to him to dissuade him since he responds to that and little else. She then shared a very funny story about when she was pregnant she was online at BBB and eating Welch's fruit snacks because it's the only thing that sounded good, and the woman behind her, whose daughter wanted them, went on a long tirade to thedaughter about how she didn't really want them because they were full of sugar and artificial and had no nutritional value and only weak people eat things like that! I'm surprised that woman didn't get slapped!

  • Caillou goes on vacation!  :-)

Miles talks all the time (and has for 2 years) about "groundpogs" (his word for groundhogs) and how they're sneaky and get in trouble all the time.  If something is out of place in our house, the groundpogs did it.  If his candy gets eaten by me or DH, the groundpogs did it.  He also doesn't get out of bed at night because he doesn't want to run into a groundpog in the dark.

We're terrible awful people in our house...but he's not scarred by any of it so I guess we're ok.  :-)

  • we haven't had to pull any out yet..but soon, I'm sure ;)

I overheard a family talking while I was out christmas shopping and it reminded me of one of my least favorite threats/lies...  When parents use the threat of police as a way to get their kids to behave!  drives me effin nuts!!

  • Belle only comes on Tuesday, it isn't Tuesday (this during her extreme desire to watch Beauty and the Beast over and over)

    Everything sleeps!!!

I try not to completely LIE... when we were done with the paci she told me I could throw the last one away, so when she asked I said "you told me to throw it away", I didn't actually throw it away and I never said I did... but I lead her to believe it...

Yeah, I agree. . . I'm also not sure how I feel about "threatening" with Santa - but, I'm not there yet (DS is too young) so I'm reserving my opinions  :)

We totally threatened with Santa.  :-)  We don't use the police though because we don't want him to be afraid of them since they're really there to help.  :-)

This drives me CRAZY. Police are there to HELP you. Not make you behave.

    * i use the run out all the time - but she comes back with lets go to the store and get more.

  • I tell my kids all the time that their stuffed animals need to take a nap so no, they can't come into Target with us.

Unfortunately, lots of the other little lies I used to tell no longer work because my kids now can tell time and know exactly what is saved on the DVR, etc.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

Daddy fixes everything at our house too - mostly the DVD player. Daddy has not figured out why Dillon attacks him everyday to watch a DVD the second he gets home.

On Sundays when the Pats are playing the remote is broken and will not change channels.

We can not go into shopping stores unless he sits in the shopping cart - we will get kicked out.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Lots of broken things here or things are sleeping. His alphie sleeps a lot as does his new hockey set

  • DH was just talking about this last night.  He was talking about the whole Santa Claus thing and that we are really lying to DS.

I also tell him things are broken until Daddy gets home like the T.V. or DVD player because he wants to watch something over and over again.

  • Nicholas was looking for his "Pop pop" (that thing that you push where the colored balls go "pop pop").  It was 8:00 at night and I didn't want him playing with it and waking Ava, plus it was in Ava's room anyway.  So I had it was sleeping.   Nicholas said "Oh it go night night in Ayba's room".

When Nicholas wants to watch another Blue's Clues, I tell him Blue is taking a nap.

I'm also guilty of telling him that cookies or crackers or whatever is "all gone"

If he knows something is in the cupboard and he can't reach it and there is something in it that I don't want him to have I pretend that it's locked.  "Oh I'm sorry it's locked and mommy can't open it.  Oh well"

  • All of the toys need to nap at some point.

DVD's are often broken or need to nap.

Certain TV shows that drive me nuts "aren't on right now" even though they are.

We have to pick up our toys before we go, because Reagan (the dog) plays with them when we're gone and he might break them.  Works every.single.time.

We need to eat (whatever food he's avoiding eating) because it makes you tall like daddy or makes your nose stop running or makes you run fast.
