We are off the nipple shield!!!!

I just had to share this huge excitement today! Today, after she took a few sucks on the shield, I decided to take it away and offer the breast plain and simple. To my joy & surprise she took it right away!!!!

I'm thrilled, can you tell!!?

I would love to hear other success stories!

  • That is awesome! I feel like we are close - the past few times I have offered boob only LO latched right on. But, he had a hard time staying on. Part of me is too lazy to work on it, haha. It kind of feels like starting all over again. I'm just going to take it slow....but I am relieved to know that if I lose it or forget it LO will still be able to eat.

  • Yay!! We have been off the shield for a week now. Life has gotten so much more simple in the past week! Plus, he seems to eat much faster now (20 minutes vs. 40 minutes).

  • We are getting there.  I can get her to latch on usually without the shield if she starts with it first and I take it away.  I still haven't gotten her to latch on first thing without the shield, but hopefully we'll be there soon!

  • we're still on it... i kind of have a sense of security with it because i can see the milk in it:-) but i'm jealous... it would be nice to get off the shield

  • Yay!  I'm with you!  We weaned off it about two weeks ago.  I don't think there's anything wrong with using the shield but I never seemed to have it clean when I needed it and it always seemed to be anywhere but where I was setting up to nurse and LO was a super messy eater with it.  Half the milk seemed to leak out his mouth and all over his clothes and the nursing pillow.  Now I can be confident that I can nurse anywhere.  Huge relief!

  • Good for all you ladies that have weaned!  We are 25% there - he needs it to latch most of the time ad I try and take it off when I can and sometimes he oes great, bt we still have a ways to go.  We are trying though so I will be proud of myself for that!  I can't wait to get off it though since we are trying to master the side lying position at night and it's a lot harder with the shield. I love the position though and so does LO, and then we end up bed sharing, which I must admit is the best thing ever. We both sleep better and I just love having him close!
