For those whose LO goes to a caretaker...

My mom keeps DS during the DS during the day and is perfectly fine with CDing with me. In fact she keeps my nephew too and he is CD'd. So I have a couple of questions: how many CDs do you send (I use covers and inserts)? Do you bring a wet bag for them to all go in and bring it home at the end of each day or after two days? Any other tips or things that you find work well being a working mama or having a LO in some form of childcare while CDing? TIA!

  • I send six diapers daily. (I use pockets.) He normally goes through 4, sometimes 3, sometimes 5 -- but I'd rather send too many than too few. I bring home the wetbag daily.

  • You may not be able to send covers and inserts to a daycare facility.  In my state, a daycare center is required to change the entire diaper (cover and insert) at every change.  It's stupid, but the law.  We send AIOs to daycare, although we rarely use them at home.

When DD goes from part time to full time care next month, we'll send six diapers and a wet bag every day.  The diapers will be brought home at the end of each day (I doubt you'd be allowed to leave them overnight for hygiene reasons).

As long as your center or provider allows CDs, it's really no big deal!  Just make sure to show them how to use them properly so you don't have any issues with leaks or damaged diapers.

  • We send 5 daily, sending only stuffed pockets with liners most of the time, since they are so easy for them to use. we typically get a few back but would rather have too many than too few, plus we know that she keeps a couple as backups as well. We send a wet bag and take it home everyday. its been working out wonderfully

  • I send 5 diapers a day, but my LO is a toddler. For my new baby, I will probably send about 8. I use a Planet Wise Hanging Wet/Dry bag and store the clean diapers in the front pocket. She puts the dirties in the wet pocket and sends the whole bag home each night.

She also has a small stash of disposables there for my daughter, just in case.

  • I send DS with 4 diapers per day if I'm sending pockets, and 5 prefolds/fitteds with 2 extra covers.  I also send an extra insert if I'm sending pockets for his nap time because we were having issues.  I have also sent a package of disposables for outings/emergencies.  Occasionally DS will have an extra diaper that did not get used.

I only use smaller wet bags.  I keep one at home and send a new one to  daycare.  On laundry day I just have a pile of small wet bags to go through.

DS didn't start going to daycare until he was about 8 months old.  II sent more diapers then because he was going through them faster, but I can't remember now....

  • 6 prestuffed velcro pockets or AIOs plus one medium/lg wetbag. She never uses them all unless she's sick, but better safe than sorry.
