If you were to mix them up....

Would it matter? Or how would you ever know? What are your thoughts? People ask me how I know I didn't mix the boys up early on when we were figuring out their differences & who was who. (I am sure I didn't mix them up.) But how could you tell, they have the same blood type. lol. I can't image 30 year old twins going to compare their footprint to their tiny hospital footprint because they feel like they are actually the oldest or they think they got the wrong name, lol. Even then , my boys prints looked almost ID..

They look so different to me now, and could possibly be fraternal, but if you mixed yours up early on.. what would it hurt & who would ever know? You would love them 100% no matter what their name is right?

Sorry, I was asked this over Christmas & my mind wondered.. lol.

Re: If you were to mix them up....

  • I don't think anyone would know lol.

My DH gave me such a hard time b/c I refused to take Kallie's bracelet off of her foot b/c I was terrified I would mix them up but I didn't.

  • Well DH and I couldn't agree who was in a picture from when they were 3 months old or so, so we just put a name on it. Who would ever know?

  • if we ever did mix them up, it would have been VERY early on, before we found oliver's birthmark or linus's cowlick. i've always said...who cares if we mixed them up then? no one would ever know! (and it would have been oliver and linus, since miles always weighed a lot less than them.

  • You can always check footprints because those are supposed to be unique (even for ID babies).

Otherwise I guess you'd never know!

ETA - Ha I didn't read your post......tee hee.  30 years later yeah that'd be tough!

  • someone told me the other day to have one of the girls ears pierced very early on, so we will know and everyone else will know which is which.

I thought that was a pretty good idea. lol. But really, I agree with the other ladies, if you mix them up very early, you don't know and they don't know.

This.  I remember in that episode they actually did take the babies to have their foot prints compared.

    I've wondered that too.

  • I alway say I'd paint one if the babies toenails just incase, at least til we're confident we know who is who if it ever came down to it. But no, it doesn't really matter!

    LOL, yes!
The only thing I think would matter about it is when looking back at ultrasound pictures or even if they had any differences in utero (like one of mine had to have a fetal echocardiogram and also was breech for much of the third tri, delivered by breech extraction, etc.--things which could potentially be relevant later on), it'd be nice to know which ultrasound, fetal medical history, etc., was yours. In most cases ultimately it really wouldn't matter but I feel like it might be nice to know for sentimental reasons. I'm kinda glad mine are frat though. ;)

  • A friend of my moms had ID boys and mixed them up....twice.  She has to take them to have their footprints compared by the police.  Lol. It was funny the first time.  She felt like a horrible mother the second time.  Lol. They had 0 differences until 6months or so.  My girls were really hard to tell apart for the first 3 months.  We could have mixed them up but I dont think we did.  I kept their hospital bracelets on until they were snug.  Which was about 2 wks because they wouldn't gain weight.  Then I made them bead ankle bracelets with their name on them, painted their toe nails and made sure everyone watching them knew to dress them in pink/purple. They had their own color.  Luckily at 3 months Kay developed a blue vein across her nose.  They have always weighed within an oz or 2 of each other.  They were the same at birth and still weigh the same now at 5.5 yrs old.

As an identical twin, this is something that my sister and I have argued/laughed over for years.  When we were younger we would get so angry over the thought that we weren't really who we thought we were because we might have been switched around.  As we got older we realized that the only thing that *may* have been switched is our names.  I think it was within weeks of our birth that my mother started to paint our toes so that she could tell us apart, but she still managed to mix us up down the road (I had to wear a foot brace and there were many times that they got confused and stuck it on my sister.  They would spend all night trying to figure out why Melanie was crying and it wouldn't be until the morning that they realized they had switched us!). I think it's bound to hapen at least once....especially when the babies are first born and look soooo much alike! :)

PS- I can't help but comment on how GORGEOUS all of your babies are on this board!!!  You are truly doubly blessed!
