Getting used to the baby's name

Does anyone else have trouble with their baby's name? We agreed on Dylan, and I like it and definitley haven't found a name I'd rather use, but calling him Dylan still doesn't feel like it fits. Maybe because we didn't talk about our girl name much, and we were team green with DS, so this is the first time I'm referring to an inside baby by his name?? IDK. We can't change it now even if I wanted to- I think that would traumatize me 3yo, lol!

Just wondering if anyone else feels this way.

Re: Getting used to the baby's name

  • I am the same way! I just say, "the baby", all the time. It seems to fit better since I haven't met our Skylar yet. I'm sure it will be better once he is here!

  • same here. it feels weird saying "Liam" so I still call him baby boy when I talk to him.

  • We've been using her name, along with just referring to her as "the baby" or "your/our daugther" since we found out we were having a girl.   Around our dogs we call her "Baby Sissie".

The biggest challenge we've had so far is trying to get my sister to call LO by her name and not some nickname she's trying to create.  Sister got very butt-hurt at Christmas dinner when Hubby and I told her that LO's name is not Kem, Kerr, Keria, or Kj.

  • Me! We agreed on Anna for a girl and Brady for a boy, but since we don't know what we're having and we haven't bounced our names off of anyone I'm feeling really unsure that they "fit" and am afraid once the baby is named I'll regret it...

  • We've called him Henry for months now, so it seems normal to us...but we both agreed that if he came out and didn't LOOK like a Henry we'd use something else on our list.  I'm kind of freaked out about that possibility, because he just is Henry to me.

We didn't share with anyone, so everyone else refers to him as the baby.

  • I frequently say "the baby" instead of his name.  I feel like I can type it easier than I can say it.  So emails, blog, etc. is easier for me but when I talk about him - I usually call him baby.

  • Lol, I was thinking about this yesterday.  Our baby's name is Andrew Joseph.  We both loved the name Drew.  But family that knows his name say "Baby Andy" or "Baby AJ". UGH....  Lol.

  • I was definitely like that with DS.  Part of the weirdness for me when he was in utero was that he shared DH's name (Tom and Thomas).  I almost never called him by his name when I was pregnant and now it's certainly not weird at all! :) Just wait til he's here and everyone starts calling him that - it will feel more natural.
  • Our DD uses the Lo's name more than I do. Which is funny. I think we focused so much on explaining to her about her little sister that she is more comfortable with the name than I am.

  • We call our baby by her name all the time, but just to each other.  DH actually slipped earlier this week with his parents, but they can't hear very well and they missed it.  I don't know what I'll do if she doesn't look like a Natalie Grace.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I went through a phase where it seemed weird, but I'm used to it now. I teach pre-school and all the kids talk about "baby Rachel" and it is very cute. I keep saying "baby Rachel" so I think it will be weird to drop the baby part. :)

  • We haven't shared the baby's gender with family... we just refer to "the baby." Medical personnel know, though, and only one has flat-out asked the name (most just ask if we have one picked out). I almost felt like I didn't say it with conviction when I told her. But this is all so surreal still... when I finally get to hold LO, it will just feel right!
  • We have a name picked out but I still call the baby by her nickname. I haven't met her yet so it's a little weird to call her by name yet.
