Multiples

First visit with mutliple specialist...

Hello all! I hope your day is going good! Quick question...

Today I'm meeting with a multiple specialist for the first time, my OB wants to have the remaining u/s done with this practice. And needless to say I'm nervous... What should I expect? I've had no problems thus far and both babies are tracking awesome (3.8lbs each at last weeks visit), but now they want me to go do dual monitoring...is this normal? It's my first multiple pregnancy and it's also been 11 1/2 yrs sense I had my DD. Any advise is welcome. Thanks!!

Have a great day,

Dustilou

Re: First visit with mutliple specialist...

  • I think I was around 20 weeks when I started seeing the MFM for my ultrasounds.  Very normal...they are there to monitor high-risk pregnancies, and a multiples pregnancy is automatically dubbed high-risk.  Sit back and enjoy this one perk of being pregnant with twins!  You get to see them so much more than if you had a singleton.  My MFM also did 3D images with my sonos, and gave me SO much great information at each visit.  I loved him and wished he could have been my OB :)

  • Do you mean an MFM (maternal fetal medicine specialist) or a Peri (Perinatologist)  - which are the same???

Just making sure.  Most of us saw one before 32 weeks, so I didn't know if a multiples specialist was something else.

  • I know later on I have to start going to the hospital where I'll be delivering for the dual monitoring. So, I think that part is totally normal.

    good luck!

  • I just got back and yeah it's MFM Doctor. Everybody is doing awesome, the Dr. kinda looked at me like "what are you here for again?". But I guess you all are right it's normal. So worrying for nothing..lol. Our girl is 3lbs 15oz and our boy is 3lbs 11oz. And have hair..which explains the heartburn allll the time. But thanks for everyone's reassurance! Good thing is I get to peek at them every week until they are outside babies! :)
