TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Honest opinions please regarding trying again

I am impatiently awaiting AF's arrival so that I can call the RE and schedule my HSG.  If the test shows that my tube is open, we can try again if we want.  With this comes a 30% chance of ANOTHER ectopic.  I want so badly to conceive naturally and our insurance does not cover IVF.  Am I being selfish by wanting to try again?  A peice of me feels that it is not fair for me to risk the life of another baby, but another peice feels (well mostly hopes) that we can have a little bit of luck in our lives.  Of course, there is a great possibilty that the HSG will show my tube is no good so this may be  a mute point.  Just wondering what your thoughts on the matter are.
3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13

Re: Honest opinions please regarding trying again

  • I'm sorry you're in a position to have to decide this.  I totally get wanting to conceive naturally and not have to go through the hellish and expensive ivf process.  I wouldn't say wanting to bring a baby into the world is selfish either.  We're raised to think getting pregnant is so natural and simple (it only takes "one time" right? - stupid health classes were all a lie!)  I think you should talk these concerns over with your DH and doctor and then use your heart to make the best decision for you.  GL!

  • DH and I discussed it right after I was treated with the methotrexate...we had said that if the medication worked properly we would give it another shot.  I just worry that I will be mad at myself for doing it if it ends badly.  I am very torn and I know you can't make the decision for me, but appreciate your input.

  • Aww, I understand and sympathize how hard that decision must be for you!  UGH - ttcal is so effing difficult!!!  There are no clear cut answers, and we have to make such hard decisions sometimes.  T&P that you and DH will come to a decision you feel confident with and that will bring you your take home baby!

  • IMO - I don't think it's selfish to want to try again naturally, and I understand the hoping for a bit of luck.  GL with your HSG and your decision.

  • Good luck with your HSG!  Personally, if I had an open, healthy tube we would probably TTC on our own.  I can't imagine the decision you're faced with.  T&Ps to you that you and your DH are able to comfortably decide what is best for the both of you.

This.  It was assumed that my first pregnancy was eptopic, but we didn't know for sure and tried again naturally.  We did get pregnant with clomid + IUI but that ended in m/c again-probably eptopic.  That second loss was enough to push me to IVF, which we will be starting next month.  After two I didn't see a reason to think that things would change if we tried a third time, but after the first, I would definitely try again naturally.

I hope your HSG goes well and you can come to a decision that you're both at peace with!
