When I found out i was pregnant the due date I was given was December 29th...which was based on my last period, as usual. That date stuck until I was about 4 mos along, at which point I had the AFP blood test. That level was low so they did an ultrasound to try to rule out the possibility of Down's Syndrome. Baby ended up measuring 8 days smaller than that Dec. 29 due date so the changed it to Jan. 6. I was happy at the time because they said that me being less far along than i thought (even by just 8 days) could account for the low AFP level, thus ruling out the Down's Syndrome situation.
So, now I'm wondering which due date I should pay more attention to?? The Jan. 6 date makes no sense numbers-wise (as far as my last period and normal gestation time, etc.).
The only reason I'm concerned I guess is because, if he doesn't come on his own, I'm being induced on Jan. 12th. Which, according to my doctor is 6 days post-due..but if the Dec. 29 date is actually correct, that will make him 14-days past due..which i thought was a little too "over-done".
Any thoughts as far as which date would seem more correct? I know it's only 8 days...but the January EDD just does not add up!
Re: Still Pregnant!! Due Date Question (Kinda Long)
My due date according to last menstrual period was Dec 16, but waas changed to Dec 24th after an ultrasound at 8weeks 5days. From what I understand from dr, the u/s is a much more reliable measure (esp. since I wasn't tracking ovulation anyway). Sticking with Dec 24th due date, but still waiting
LMP is a much less accurate way of dating a pregnancy. If I had gone off my LMP, my due date would have been a full 2 weeks earlier than it was (not that it mattered, LO came early either way). I had been charting, so I know for a fact I ovulated around day 26 instead of 14.
I would go with the u/s due date, but even if the 12/29 is the more accurate due date, 14 days past the EDD is not too long, but it will be the latest most Drs will let you go past your due date.
14 days is not too long. I am due on 12-29 and have an induction scheduled for 1-12 which is exactly 42 weeks.
Ditto pp with lmp being the less accurate way to determine edd.
If you weren't charting your cycles to know when you really ovulated during the month, I would say that the January 6th due date is probably more accurate. Due dates based on LMP's are very inaccurate because not every one ovulated on day 14; so ovulate earlier and some much later.
Even so, being 14 days "overdue" doesn't make your LO too over cooked. I think Jan. 6th is a safe date in all aspects.
