Alternatives to Acid Reflux Medicine for Toddlers?

DD appears to have reflux.  She is almost 15 months old and has never been in a lot of pain, but has had a lingering cough for 2 months.  Based on that and a recent increase in spit-up/throw-up, the dr. diagnosed her with reflux.  We were going to start on omeprazole, but wanted to try some alternatives first (changing diet, etc.). Any tips or good websites to look at?  I saw the elimination diet by Dr. sears, but wasn't sure if that would be good for a growing toddler.

Tia!

  • Lemon Water? Isn't that what was recommended for pregnancy reflux recently? Both my girls love water with lemon!

  • I think it was apple cider vinegar mixed with water.
  • Ive been doing lemon water and apple cider vinegar in water. Both seem to help. Sleeping on an incline helps me the most. Could you raise the top of her mattress about 4-6"? Also trying to slow down how fast she eats. If she eats fast that is. I don't know her schedule but I know if I lay down within an hour after eating I am sooo much worse.

Poor baby. I know how she feels.

  • Acv mixed with water and some raw honey (if old enough for honey). Or lemon water. We juice the whole lemon and then make ice cubes out of it. Super easy and fast when busy. DD asks for acv daily now.
  • Ps. You can test stomach acid levels with beets. Just google beet test stomach acid and you'll find instructions.

This is so cool. I can't wait to try it!!! I'm reasonably sure I have more than adequate stomach acid (too much) but hey, I love a good science experiement.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I feel like I am sucks newbie at with this.  Are there any good websites to look at for this? Dh is not exactly on board with all of it (he's worried what acv might due since its so acidic).
