I posted on here last week about looking for a tandem stroller to use in malls/shopping in place of my BJCM. Still on the fence as to which one to buy. I was looking at the Graco Quattro Tour Duo...but, now I'm debating on the Kolcraft. When the twins were very young - less than two months - I found a used on on CL. I was sooo excited - then I got it and it was in less favorable condition than I thought, so I never really used it. It didn't seem that sturdy, but that could have been because of the condition of that particular one...never took it out anywhere due to this, so I really don't know how this one compares to a new one...it just seems sooooo long and heavy, but I like the different options/features available with the Kolcraft. But then I think about having to take a seat off just to put it in my suburban and that could be a pain, too. Right now they are about the same price online, and I'm really wanting to order one, but damn if I just can't make up my mind...
Sooo....I know all of you other MoMs are stroller experts. I would GREATLY appreciate any advice you can give about either one of these strollers.
....BTW - CL for my area sucks...Houston is the nearest large city and it is 100 miles...not very convenient!
Re: Graco Quattro Tour Duo or Kolcraft Contours Tandem
I have the Kolcraft and LOVE it. We keep our seats facing one another (both facing center) and we don't have to take a seat up to fold it in that position. If we want them both facing out or both facing me we have to take a seat off, but 99% of the time we just leave them facing each other. When you fold it, you need to pull the back seat (nearest the handle bar) "up" or "forward" (in the direction the stroller is folding) before it gets stuck behind the handle, and make sure the lap bars don't line up (one should essentially lay on top of the other). The first few times it was tricky to make sure that we lined everything up properly, but now it takes no thought at all to fold it.
Yes, it's heavy but I don't mind. The basket can be difficult to access, and I hate that there are no snack trays but we bought clip ons that have a snack cup and cup holder for drinks.
I really like this stroller. I hated the idea of a regular tandem (or worse the Phil and Teds with the extra seat) because I always figured the kid in the back got the crappy view.
I can in no way compare it to the Graco becuase I have no exerience with a Graco.
Thanks for the response! Is it really sturdy? I'm just really thinking that the one I got put a bad taste in my mouth because it was used...
I don't mind the the heaviness of it (afterall, it is a double stroller) - does it maneuver easily? I am used to my BJCM that turns on a dime...it is just not practical in the mall because of the clothing racks.
i had a contours when i first had the twins and i loved it. It's a GREAT stroller for the money. I have owned a few high end strollers, and I can say that the contours is very comparable for such a cheap stroller... it does so much, and rides really nice.
the only down side is that it's really long... and it can't turn into a single (meaning, it can't be made smaller, the length is always there) which can be hard to get around in small spaces- but other than that, it's a great stroller.
I got the BJCSelect when it first came out b/c it solved the 2 cons about the contours... and i love it - but if price is an issue i'd get the kolcraft for sure. i'm not a fan of Graco strollers.
