TTC after 35

Hypothyroid anyone?

I was prescribed and will be on Levothyroxine for a month 02 January. My TSH was 7 and at retest was 4.89. I have been charting for 18+ cycles now and I usually ovulate around day 16 and with a total cycle of 28 days (give or take a day).

My first cycle on Levothyroxine (started mid-cycle) I was only on day 26 when my cycle began again. I figured it was my body getting used to the medication. This cycle (almost a full month into taking the medication), I have already ovulated (charts show a possible day 13 ovulation) and it is day 16 today.

Has anyone experienced an earlier ovulation and shorter cycles because of the medication? What will this do to my LP? I already take a Super B Complex and a B6 to stretch my LP from 8-10 days out to 12 days.   I have a call into my RE nurse, but it will take a while for them to get back to me.

Re: Hypothyroid anyone?

  • I take a very low dose of Levox. (25 mcg, I think). I was told it takes 6-8 weeks to work on TSH levels, so I would think it should take that long to have any affect. I can't recall any changes in my cycle that I'd attribute to Levox. Good luck.

  • Yes - hypothyroid here. And my fertility treatments were cancelled 2 months ago to my TSH being at 10. I finally saw an endocrinologist who gave me a lot of info. My advice to you is:

    - Get yourself to an endo immediately.

    - It takes a full 8 weeks for your body to register a change in your medication.

    - Tweaking to get to the right level takes time and patience.

    - 1-2 is the correct TSH range to be in. Make sure that's the goal.

    - Wait 1 full hour before eating anything after taking Levo and then wait 4 hours before taking any vitamins.

    - Most RE's will not treat you until your level is in range or close because they say that you will most likely not get pregnant and then if you do, it could be dangerous to the baby.

Once you get your hypo fixed, everything should stabilize for a while!

  • Thanks Solar!  I am actually on 50mcg a day.

I actually saw the endocrinologist on the 22nd for the first time.  The RE was the one that found it and referred me.  I go for my 6-8 week bloodwork in January.  The energy level has returned...I can work out again!

I actually wait 2 hours (with recommendation of the RE, endo and the pharmacist) because I do a lot of fiber in my diet.

I was told to wait on TTC until I was down to a 2 or less because of that reason, but with DH fertility issues that won't be a problem.  We have to figure out why his numbers are low and that could take as long as getting my TSH corrected.
