Taking down decorations

When are you taking down your holiday decorations?

We took ours down already.  Got home from VT and I ripped all the ornaments off the tree and threw it outside.  It was so super crunchy and dry.  It was a $40 tree from Home Depot and let me tell you, that is the worst tree we've ever had. Gorgeous, yes we chopped a ton off the bottom, etc., but it didn't last.

I just wanted to make room for all the new stuff and not have the clutter associated with decorations.  DH took down the outside stuff (icicle lights, garlands, etc) because the weather was decent on Tues, and he is back to his crazy busy work schedule (i.e. never around), so we figured we'd just get rid of everything.

Feels good!

Re: Taking down decorations

  • We'll probably take ours down this weekend.  I figure it takes so long to pull all the decorations out and decorate that we might as well enjoy it a little longer.  This is actually the first year I'm not dying to get it put away.  I think my boys have brought some Christmas spirit back into the house :o)

  • We usually wait a couple weeks.  DD especially loves the tree and lights.  But this year we took it down immediately to start getting ready for baby2
  • I took everything down on the 26th.  I don't want to start a new year with last year's mess!

  • I think that will be our task on New Year's Eve while drinking champagne and trying to stay awake.  We party hard these days.

  • We started the tradition of waiting til 3 kings day to take down the decorations.. so we have another 10 days or so. :)

  • I took ours down the day after Christmas. This makes me feel like Scrooge, because normally I would have it up for quite a while longer, at least mid-January. But since things take me forever to get them done, and I had the house to myself, and I still have a lot I would like to get done to prep for the new baby and move Charlotte into her new room, I figured it was probably best to just get it down and put everything away.

That said, I left up my Willow Tree Nativity set and my Snoopy figurines from Hallmark this year, they are on my mantle. It helps me feel less Grinchy.

  • I'm going to take the tree down tomorrow, since Friday is trash day. I'll do the rest of the decorations over the weekend.

I would have done it today (since it's my day off), but I had all my girlfriends and their LO's over for lunch and a playdate.

  • Done, everything is down, although the totes haven't been put away.  I did it all last night and DH dragged the tree out today.  I usually do it this week and I needed the space to put some toys and help de-clutter some of the other space in the house.  I haven't put the totes back in the closet where they go and I need to do that during nap time (so right now...) but I've been debating about if I need to switch the other decoration boxes to the front (for v-day, st. patricks) but I keep wondering if I will even care about putting them up this year.  I should just do it.

Usually I leave out a bunch of snowmen until February but this year I packed them all away.  I feel like the house is so cluttered with new toys, I just needed all the extras gone.

  • I'm waiting to see if my parents are coming up this weekend...if they aren't I want to get rid of it ASAP because I want the space back :)

  • We leave ours up until New Years. I don't really see a rush or a need to take everything down immediately. The mess and clutter aren't my decorations it's the new gifts that are still going to be here even with out the decorations. We like to have the Christmas Tree and lights on for New Years Eve anyways. I'll take everything down on the 2nd since I am off.

  • We put away everything except for the tree and a string of garland/lights. We will most likely take the rest down in the next couple days. I like it up early and then down soon after the holiday.

  • I took our tree down today. I usually leave it up for awhile, but I was feeling an itch to clean up, get organized and find places for all of her new toys, so it came down early this year. We still have some lights and garland up which will stay for awhile (cuz they're SO pretty:)).

  • We don't take ours down until after New Year's. Technically, it's still Christmas until Epiphany, so we usually leave it until then!

I love having the tree. We leave the lights on all day and the girls love looking at the ornaments. I've definitely gotten more into the spirit now that I'm a mom...

  • I'm debating taking the ornaments off the tree today because tomorrow is garbage day.
