What is in your 1 year old's crib?

Alice has nothing.  She's been getting up at 5am (4:55 this morning) and she will not go back to sleep, so I am considering giving her some soft books or something to play with until I am ready to get up or until she goes back to sleep on her own.  Her nap schedule is being F'd with at school and I assume that's why she's waking so early.

Anyway, what does your child sleep with?  Any pointers on how to get my kid to sleep one more hour?

  • Blanket, stuffed animal(s), sippie cup of water.

I introduced the sippie of water when we weaned her from the bottle per pedi's advice. She went from STTN to waking every couple of hours when we switched from bottle to sippie. I leave her with a sippie and she doesn't wake at all.

  • DS has been getting up at 5-5:30 for a couple months, so I can't help you there. He's also had two colds in the last month, so his sleep is sucktastic, too. The last two mornings he's slept past 6...fingers crossed that he keeps it up. Anyways, DS has a lovey, one of the Aden&Anais security blankets, in his crib at night. The last week I've been letting him nap with a small stuffed monkey. I think I'm finally comfortable letting him have it at night as well.

  • At a year old, she had a pillow, blanket, stuffed animals, toys...whatever the f would make her lay down at night, she would get.

  • At a year DD had a blanket, her FP glow worm, maybe another stuffed animal, and always always a couple board books.  She has always "read" to herself before falling asleep and sometimes in the morning before crying out for us to get her.  I've caught her sometimes in the middle of the night "reading" on the monitor so I know they are huge for her when she wakes up and can't go back to sleep.

Pretty much this but also add in a sippy of water and about three other stuffed animals that she insisted be in the crib with her.

Ok... I'll put some chit in there and see what happens.

  • Sooo much stuff! A big pillow, lovies out the butt, soft books, animals, and her big soft blanket.

Do it.  Obviously V's a little older, but she's got a freaking pile in her crib.  Lovey, a few dolls, doll bottle, a few blankies, a stuffed cat, a stuffed monkey, and at least 3 books.  She'd sit in there and play for an hour if I let her.

So while I wouldn't quite suggest 19 items like Vivi has, I do think a few soft books and dolls might not be a bad idea.

  • When DD was 1, she wore a sleep sack. That was all she was allowed to have in the crib with her. Around 1.5, she started sleeping with a stuff animal (or three). When she turned 2, she lost the sleep sack and got a blanket.

I always hesitated to put things in the crib with her because I wanted her to associate the crib with sleeping only, not playing. But with her, we never had any early morning wakings.

Are you opposed to sleep training? I'm sure some of the techniques have ideas for extending morning wake time. I'm sorry.

    Dear Bump: You suck.

Um, no.  My middle name is Sleep Training.

Yesterday when she woke at 4:55 DH went and treated it like a middle of the night waking (BECAUSE IT WAS!) and checked in at intervals for an hour until she fell asleep for about 10 minutes.

So, last night I put her to bed 30 minutes early and put a sippy and my old bear in there with her.  She saw it when I put it in there, but then it occurred to me that she doesn't have a nightlight so she couldn't see it once I left.  Mama not so smart.

Anyway, she slept this morning until the GLORIOUS hour of 6.  6:10 to be exact.  Ahhh... it was awesome.  I am going to stick with the early bedtime until they get her naps in order at school.  My mom will be so thrilled.
