Infant diarrhea

Looks like we've got it. DS just had his second very watery, brownish stool :( guess it's time to call the pedi.

Re: Infant diarrhea

  • If your milk has possibly come in (I saw your post below), then what you're seeing could be normal BF poo which is a brownish mustard colour and is water/seedy in nature. It looks and sounds exactly like what we would classify as diarrhea, but it's not.

  • Hm. It's like brown grown human poo (sorry). Still unsure about milk, I'm pumping a bit more but not anywhere close to the 45-60mLs the LC wants. No seedy texture...

Good grief this mom stuff is stressful. At least he'a peeing like a rock star, 10 wet diapers in 24 hours.

  • I think I remember that you said you're supplementing, right? Could be the influence of the formula that's making the poo darker and smellier (as FF babies' poo tends to be). I'd say if he's peeing up a storm not to worry too much about a couple weird BM's just yet, but no harm in calling the doctor just to make sure :)

  • Thanks. We did call the nurse line and she verified with the pedi that it's not a point of concern right now, just keep an eye on him. Even with just 3 in the past 24 hours, they're not freaking out.

Yes, we're supplementing, but I think these last couple feedings we might have worked out our latch issue that I figured out this morning. He's only taken 10-15mLs of BM and no formula after the past 2 feedings, which is reassuring that he's getting more at the breast.
