so we've been going to a family practice for a while now, and we are still really happy with the staff there. but part of me is wondering if i should be going to an OB, since they're specialists in this type of thing..you know, women, my uterus, etc...i've had 2 early m/c now and my doctor just keeps saying "its ok, early m/c happen all the time. just keep taking your vitamins and keep trying". well i feel like that's not good enough! i want some test run, i want someone to do an u/s and check- is everything ok? i dont want to just run blood tests on my cholesterol levels (cuz how is that even ttc related??) ok, so now as i'm writing this i'm definitely thinking i should be going to an OB. but i'm a little embarrassed for not going sooner..and what do i even say when i call them up the first time? how did you guys find a good doctor/OB? what the heck do you say when you ask for your first appointment? i feel like a dummy..

All AL Always Welcome
I would definitely go to an OB. I moved about an hour and a half from the OB that I went to for 12 years and had to find another one when I found out I was pregnant. The way that I did it was I went to my insurance's website to find the names of OBs that delivered at the hospitals that I wanted to deliver at (had a level III NICU and were close) and then went to a website that gives you a report card on the physician. Our new OB is the chief of OB at a hospital that I could literally walk to if I wanted to. His staff is amazing and helped us so much during the loss of our first baby. I also look to see if they are board certified, which you can find on their report card. To find the report card you can just google the doctor and it usually shows up. GL in your search and I hope you get answers soon.
If you don't chart Fertilityfriend.com is a great site to use. I just started temping after I started my cycle after my D&C and it's awesome. We monitored CM to conceive our first baby but the combination of the two just gives you more insight about your body. Hope this helps
Not sure how things work in your area, but here, you need a referral from a GP to any specialist, including OB, especially if it isn't for your annual gyny exam. Once you get your referral for whatever reason (repeat loss), then you become a patient of that OB and call deal with them directly. Here, even when you are pg, if you have a GP, you see them until about 20 wks, unless there is some other reason to see an OB earlier (repeat loss would qualify), but you still need the referral from your GP. The OB/GYN I am seeing now, is not the one I was referred to for my pg (I never did get to see that doc), but rather the on-call doc from when I went to the hospital for my m/c. I really like her though and will be using her from now on.
Like PP said, if you know of a good OB (one that friends/family use) then call them, but keep in mind you may need your GP to refer you officially. GL, I hope you get some answers soon.
Yes, go to an OBGYN! I first went online to find OBGYNs whom my insurance deemed 'in-network'. I then googled each of their names. I searched for about 6 weeks before I found a doctor who seemed like a good match and I love her! I've actually seen two other doctors in the same practice and they're wonderful too.
You have to take on-line reviews/ comments with a grain of salt, don't cross someone off your list too quickly just because of one comment. I also visited their websites (which many of them have). I realized my OBGYNs office was a keeper when they had Fertility Friend listed on their site as a suggested TTC tool.
When you call, ask if you can get a consultation with the OBGYN, you do not necessarily have to wait until you're due for an annual to make an appointment with you new doctor. I would ask at this appointment what their protocols are for specific concerns you have. I know a big one for me was early betas upon +HPT and the turn around time for results.
GL to you!
