Help w/transitioning blanket

DD still uses her favorite baby blanket and its still big enough but if she moves at all she is uncovered and to fall asleep she likes the blanket tucked under her neck and completely covering her feet.  Tonight she called me in 3 times to recover her so I suggested that she hold her blanket and then I would cover her up with a bigger blanket (a Happy Feet one that her aunt got her awhile ago) and she got really upset.  Any suggestions on transitioning to a bigger blanket?  All other transitions have been really easy for her she weaned herself from the pacifier at 3 months, weaned from bfing and bottle at 12 months, etc.

TIA!

Re: Help w/transitioning blanket

  • I recently dealt with this too - I took DD shopping and had her pick out a twin size quilt.  It is HUGE in the toddler bed so no matter how she rolls, she stays covered.  She loves it and calls it her cozy blanket.  Her "lovey" blanket stays nearby but really, has been kind of abandoned.  But you could put it under the big one too.  Maybe since it is colder out the blanket needs to be cozy and covered too?

That's a good idea, maybe if I let her pick out a new blanket it will go over better.  She also doesn't like anything "extra" in her bed so I don't know if that's part of her not wanting another blanket or not.  For instance if she is having a hard time getting to sleep I'll ask if she wants to sleep with one of her dolls or something and she refuses.  I need to return a few gifts anyway so maybe we'll pick out a new blanket tomorrow.  Thanks!

  • I would cover her & her blanket with a comforter.
